Phone Number Conundrum

They should outlaw cutsey phone numbers that use letters.

First they are a pain to dial because you have to look at the phone pad to figure out what number to dial.

And, worse...they don't work if your phone pad doesn't look like this:

    1 2 3
         ABC DEF

    4 5 6
   GHI JKL MNO

    7 8 9
   PQRS TUV WXYZ

But, rather you have a Blackberry 7100t, like I do....it looks like:

Franklin County Chapter Mathcounts

Link: http://www.mathcounts.org/

I just found out today that the Franklin County Chapter's Mathcounts will be on February 5th.

Kind of a good thing to know. Because I was contemplating a shopping trip to downtown Columbus this weekend. And, how I would have juggle the other shopping venues I felt that I needed to also hit this weekend.

But, if I'm going to have to be downtown on February 5th...I think I can put those things off until that weekend.

The main consideration was that I needed to do something downtown before February 11th....which kind of leaves this weekend and next weekend as times when I can do it. Though I'm taking Monday afternoon off from work next week. But, one of the other trips I hope to do this weekend is to reschedule an appointment to occur that afternoon.

ZipZoomFly - Maxtor DiamondMax 10 250GB Serial ATA w/16MB Buffer

Link: https://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=100718-3

Well, it is done.

Order Number Z2478169.

That brings me to a total of 8 250GB drives ordered from ZipZoomFly.com....out of the total of 9 that I've purchased to date.

Hmmm, forgot to see if they carry my current favorite in Ergonomic keyboards....

Also forgot to order the KVM that is on my wishlist....though I was thinking I might see if Best Buy has a 4 port version of the 2 port one I have now (which I got from them)....plus there are other things I need to go out and buy this weekend. :P

Today is a bad day for technology....

>:-[

This morning my computer was acting funny. When I rebooted....keyboard was dead.

Fortunately, I had bought a new keyboard in anticipation of keyboard failure (though wrong one). The cleaners at work keep smashing into my keyboard when the clean my cubicle....and it is my keyboard, not the company's. It's an Ergonomic keyboard, rather than the original keyboard. So, far the damage to that keyboard hasn't impaired my ability to use it.

But, home keyboard...unexpected. Wonder if I need to order another spare keyboard now?

New server build 2

Link: http://lawrence.chen-online.net/index.php?p=200&more=1&page=2

Well, after having peeked inside the box and doing a quick research on available options.

I've decided to not do any upgrades to this box I acquired for under $40 on eBay...about $66 shipped. And, just set it up as originally intended as is.

Still haven't decided if I'll busy it up running BOINC all the time. If I do, I'll probably not add it to the Climate Prediction project....even though they give you almost a year to crunch a work unit.

So, that means the only thing to get is a 4-port KVM....it isn't quite the excuse to justify getting the Dell 2005FPW, I've been toying on the idea of getting.

Perhaps when I swing getting the Mac Mini....though the purchase that I plan to make to justify getting that is an EyeTV 500 (which I intend to get before July 1st, 2005....it is usually October/November when new computers get acquired around here).

New Deliveries

Today, while I was having lunch in McDonalds...I spotted the normal FedEx guy. He asked me if I had been home yet, because he had dropped off a package for me.

I couldn't think of what I was expecting from FedEx, so I finished my lunch and went home to find out.

Found two packages waiting for me.

UPS had delivered the PC I had bought off of eBay....so that'll probably be my weekend project to turn it into the new DNS/NTP/DHCP server for my home network. It'll mostly be an appliance in my network. Though I'll probably do a few other things to it.

I suppose I probably need to get a 4-port KVM now.

The FedEx delivery was is the replacement Maxtor drive. I plan to stick that in my current Linux server....where my DVArchive store has grown to fill the disk that is in there now. Not sure when I'll get around to putting it in though. Kind of depends on how the new Linux server goes.

The Weekend C# Project....

....finished up a lot sooner than I had expected.

I made 3 changes to the code:

  1. expose channel type in BuildChannelGuide-s
  2. override show title with channel title if channel type is "Single" or "Recurring"
  3. fix the file is already open by another process unhandled exception

As it turned out the cause of the 3rd item is in the same class as the first two changes....

Next C# Weekend Project

Well, looks like my next dabbling into C# will be to make tweaks to the Poopli Updater....don't know if I'll be lucky enough to fix my update issues....

Now instead of subjecting some poor random forum to a long rambling thought, I will try to consolidate those things into this blog where they can be more easily ignored profess to be collected thoughts from my mind.
