Star Wars: Episode III: Revenge of the Sith

Well, I finally went and saw was okay.

In a way it did make me want to watch the original three episodes....(the trilogy that follows ;D) Except I don't think so, some how I don't think it'll quite measure up....

I wonder if they'll get remade....

Perhaps someday I'll pick up a set for my collection. Wonder if by then, I'll have to add an HD-DVD category to my blog :))

FCC/E911 and Virtual Numbers

Back when I had Qwest, I had the option of having a 1-800 number...though it wasn't very useful, since it would only work in the US. And, the main reason I wanted it was to be more reachable from Canada.

Now with VoIP, one of the things I've been thinking about is getting a virtual number in another location. Though there's nothing to say that it can't be my only number. Since, I hardly ever get any legitimate local calls. And, those that I get...there is no reason that it can't be handled by only one local number, instead of the 3 different local numbers I have at home...because I have 3 different services.

Not having a local number would probably make no impact on grey unsolicited calls, especially since a lot of them are probably out of state. grey because they claim to be exempt from DNC, even though I could do without. Especially the ones that call at inconvenient times (like when I'm eating) and the ones that just give me dead air when I do take the trouble to answer. I don't remember the last time I actually found somebody calling me.

Anyways...I'm still on the fence of whether to get a non-local number as my next service (or to replace the number on one of my services...though I'm leaning to yet another new service at the moment....)

But, now it appears because of the E911 requirement, the regulation is going to limit us to numbers that correspond with the actual location of where you live. :**: And, that could be really restrictive. Because some (many?) areas also have geographic restrictions within the city on what number for what part. And, one of the advantages of portable numbers was that even if I moved across town...I could in theory keep my number. Not that I have any plans to move in the next couple of years (as evidenced, by the fact that I'm just a week or so into an 18 month lease...) Though the last time I moved...there was some issue as to whether I could keep my number...even though I only moved 1.5 miles. I suppose since it did involve moving from one side of the Interstate to the other....

Wonder if I should hurry up and order my non-local phone numbers now.

Scrubbing Bubbles Automatic Shower Cleaner

:## - What a waste of money that was.

Today, I came home and there was a funny smell permeating my apartment. It was familiar, but I couldn't place. Then I walked into the bathroom and the floor felt funny through my socks....later I realized it was kind of wet. Then I looked at what was supposed to be full, new bottle in the Scrubbing Bubbles Automatic Shower Cleaner was empty.

Well, I guess sometime while I was out, it decided to come on by itself and stay on until it had sprayed itself all over the bathroom. And, then to conceal the evidence it stopped running, to see if I would notice.

The thing is that a couple months ago, the thing had stopped working...and I've been meaning to take it down and pitch it.

I was only able to use it for the two included bottles plus one additional. It has started getting flaky during the 3rd bottle. It was getting harder and harder to convince it that I wanted it to come on. I tried new batteries, but that didn't make a difference.

Later, after I got a 4th bottle...I found that I couldn't get it to come on at all anymore.

I was contemplating buying a new machine during the long weekend and replace it as part of some other much needed spring cleaning activities.

But, why should I buy another piece of junk to replace this one? :??:

Guess I'll have to find some other product to support my lazy bachelor lifestyle.

It's more official....I'll be going to Alaska

My tickets have arrived in the mail today.

Now, I had opted to having Princess arrange the flights rather than my agent. Princess is going with United. Wonder if they know that which frequent flyer programs I'm under. My agent knows which programs I'm in, but I doubt Princess did or cared.

Last time I went on a cruise, I didn't bother joining the FF program to get credit for the flights related to that cruise.

But, now I actually already belong to some programs where I could get points for the flight. Just wonder which one I should present when I fly? I have both Air Canada and United Airlines. I just have zero points under United, because each time that I've flown...they have credited the points to my Air Canada program. Largely because the flights were to Canada.... Actually the cruise starts in Vancouver, so it does kind of still do....:D

FCC Requires Interconnected VoIP Providers to Provide Enhanced 911 Service

It's official...VoIP has to connect to real 911 service.

This is kind of a good thing, I suppose. Both my Vonage and Lingo service have had 911, now I'm in a SBC area and they wouldn't let Vonage tie in directly...until now.... Don't know what kind of 911 service Lingo provides.

Though I wasn't that concerned about 911 over VoIP, though I activated it just because it said I had to if I wanted it and I figured it wouldn't hurt anything to do so.

Just that the only time I had need to call was by landline and they had to wait for my to regain consciousness and call back before they could find out where to send the ambulance (I had been at the location for almost a year and I was correctly listed etc, so I don't know where the failure was...)

Though I wonder what happens if your local 911 service get's your location and callback number...and the callback number isn't local. Or not even in the same state or country. Would they call you back? :??:

I wonder about computer or mobile interconnected VoIP service. Or what happens when I through my ATA in my suitcase for use while on holidays.... :lalala:

Netflix Takes Over Wal-Mart DVD Rentals

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. is turning over its online DVD rental business to Netflix Inc., signaling that the world's largest retailer couldn't beat the Internet upstart at its own game.

Somehow I'm not that surprised that Wal-Mart failed....though it is good news that they 'declared' NetFlix the victor ;D

PODWAVE - Portable iPod Stereo Speakers

My latest acquistion....I thought it would be cool, but I'm somewhat disappointed.

I have to crank my iPod all the way to get a barely tolerable sound level and it is a touch bigger than I had expected.

But, compared to the options I have for listening to my iPod without headphones...this is better than what I had. ;)

Firmware update of Momitsu V880N

Well, last night I took the plunge and updated my Momitsu V880N to the latest (April 27th, 2005) firmware. Playing AVI files over my wireless network worked fine. Don't know about the other improvements that are supposed to have been made since October 18th, 2004 firmware I've been previousily using.

The network playback problems were the reason I held off updating, the previous release (February 23, 2005) reported also fixed this problem introduced in the November 5th, 2004 firmware....but it was marked as a beta, and I didn't feel like trying it.

After this update I did leave the screensaver timeout as the default 10 minutes...since that is another problem that is supposed to have been fixed in this release. Though the first thing I've noticed is that the screen formatting is a bit weird...but I guess I can live with that it all the functionality I currently need is present....

Now instead of subjecting some poor random forum to a long rambling thought, I will try to consolidate those things into this blog where they can be more easily ignored profess to be collected thoughts from my mind.
