Got a 17" LCD Monitor

For some time I've been meaning to replace the 17" CRT that is on my WiRNS/DVArchive server with an LCD Monitor, preferrably one with built-in speakers. Though the BookPC that is the server, has a built in speaker tied to the integrated soundcard. So the speaker part was probably not essential.

My preference would've been a widescreen display, so it could do double duty incase my Samsung DLP ever failed me. It hasn't, and widescreen LCDs are kind of pricey...especially to put on the junk boxes that I use as servers, which don't get that much attention normally.

The main thinking for an LCD, is to cut down the heat from the CRT....probably helps on power usage...though probably not enough to overcome the fact that my year over year baseline consumption was up by a little more than 100kWH. Though if I go with there being 720 hours in a month....that's 138W, so maybe the monitor change will help. Though I think it is more than there's a couple of extra computers running 24/7 (along with a few extra ReplayTVs, etc.)

Of course, if I was worried, I probably wouldn't have set the A/C where it is now. But, after I got back from the cruise, my tolerance of keeping the apartment so warm during the summer wasn't I set it lower. It is still considered warm to other people.

Now instead of subjecting some poor random forum to a long rambling thought, I will try to consolidate those things into this blog where they can be more easily ignored profess to be collected thoughts from my mind.
