Spam Bully is dead, long live Spam Bully.

This morning Spam Bully started doing bad things. Clicking on the Spam/Not Spam buttons would cause Outlook to exit abruptly.

Later when I came home from work, it still wasn't working and I noted that it was largely not processing incoming mail. There were a few messages moved to my Spam folder, but most weren't. And, clicking the Spam button caused Outlook to exit abruptly.

A bunch of reboots and reinstalling it didn't help....searched around for help, found a troubleshooting document. Finally had to totally clean it from my system and then do an install.

That got it working again, though now I have to go through all the retraining meanwhile, tons of false negatives and false positives to contend with.

And, it was working so nicely before....rarely any false negatives and the occasional false positive, because spammers can be so difficult to keep up with....

Lamp Hour Check

Just as I thought I was done my semi-annual time change, I remembered that I had forgotten to do my TV. Just after I had turned it off after checking my scheduled recordings in my SA8300HD DVR.

The Lamp Timer read 2753 hours.

That's 999 hours consumed since the last time change. So it has been 210 days since I last checked the Lamp Timer, so that's an average of 4.75 hours per day. I guess that's about right.

I've been thinking of getting a new lamp as a spare. Probably getting closer to a point where I can rationalize doing it better ;D

Guess I did lose something....

As I was about to sit down to start my semi-annual clock check and changing....I noticed a light was shining.

Guess, I did lose something during the last power outage (which was started by the power going on and off rapidly a few times).

I lost my Dymo Labelwriter EL60. Mind you it isn't really the end of the world I guess, it is old and I had been thinking that I wouldn't mind replacing it at some point down the road. Namely because it is serial (and though it came with a USB adapter, the adapter didn't work once I upgraded to W2K and later XP...though I managed to keep a serial port available...)

So, I checked for pricing of a new Labelwriter...and then I looked at, and decided to go with Since they were about $40 cheaper than would include two postage label rolls, a $30 value with it. But, I still have most of the roll that was in the EL60 and there's an extra roll or two somewhere here. So I didn't have a need for more rolls that I didn't need.

Beep, Beep, Beep!

I think the next time I get into it, I'm going to have to investigate reworking my UPS strategy.

Last night just before 1am, the power went out.

It sure was noisy. The worst was the Belkin UPS, the beeper on that UPS is of much higher tone so even though it was all the way at the other end of the made its presence known.

Power didn't return until a little after 4am, so all the UPSs had drained. And, not everything recovers nicely after a power loss.

UPN53 bites the dust

After watching a large number of bad recordings of stuff from NBC-HD, I decided, last night, that I really should check the aim of my antennas.

After going through the channels and tweaking the antenna around trying to see if I can find a sweet spot that can receive all the stations, which exist in 3 different directions from my QTH.

Basically, I found a spot where I could get everything except PBS...or UPN. PBS is a problem because it is much further off from the other two directions, while UPN is much further away than the other stations.

Last night, I opted to leave out PBS, because I so rarely record anything from it.

This morning I changed my mind, as I found the desire to record something from PBS.

I decided that it was time to remove UPN from my OTA HDTV recordings. Of course, it is WWHO/UPN53's fault. For unknown reasons, they have decided to not air anything in HD this first I thought because they were under new UPN slanted ownership that they were refusing to air WB programming in HD, but I haven't seen them air any UPN programming in HD either. Namely the many shows which I enjoyed last year in HD from them...was there anything new that I was trying to follow this season?

So, since they aren't transmitting HD, there's no reason to waste my time recording the OTA DTV signal. Sure it is a bit clearer than analog SD by cable. But, I can record cable source from any of my ReplayTVs. But, only two of them can record from OTA HDTV...and I'd rather get content that is in HD.

Upgraded C Drive in Gumby

Try number 2 of upgrading the C drive in my WiRNS/DVArchive server known as Gumby seems to have gone a lot smoother.

This time I reran Acronis Migrate Easy taking the old 80GB (5400RPM) drive to the 120GB (7200RPM) drive that I pulled from my Linux server.

Of course, I expected things to go better since 120GB is under the 137GB BIOS limitation of the box and other than running into this problem last time, Migrate Easy went smoothly last time.

There'll probably be another drive upgrade or two for this box. Though not sure if it'll be this year or next job. |-|

hdb is here

Actually, it arrived during lunch...and apparently just moments before I got home, though no notice was left on my door and I didn't see the UPS truck. But, I checked online before going back to work, and saw that I should go pick it up from the lease office.

I filled out the rebate, but didn't send it off.

Then I went back to work.

The new hdb should arrive today

UPS tracking finally gives an estimated delivery date, and that date is today.

Good thing, too. hdc is full already.

Ordered another harddrive....

It is time to upgrade hdb in my Linux server (lhaven).

That should take care of all the upgrades I plan to do this box.

When done:

hda is a 250GB 7200RPM 8MB Maxtor 7Y250P0
hdb is a 300GB 7200RPM 16MB Maxtor 6B300R0(?)
hdc is a 300GB 7200RPM 8MB Seagate ST3300831A
hdd is a CDROM drive
