My latest acquisition - LVW-5007

Now I got this unit cheap off of eBay...which makes things a touch interesting. I didn't read the description close enough. It said 100% working, though the criteria was that it played a DVD. Which the seller felt was sufficient to test it. And, aside from being open box, it didn't come with a remote control (in fact it was just the unit and the manual).

So, after I won the item, I ordered a remote control separately. And, as luck had it...the remote arrived before the unit did. Both transactions completed on a Thursday. The remote was mailed first class, and arrived on Saturday. The unit was shipped by the seller by UPS ground on Monday...and it arrived today.

Trying to set it up, I kept getting weird screens....instead of the expected TVGOS screens. Looks like that part of the unit is bad.

I decided to try updating it to the latest firmware, figuring I didn't have anything to lose at this point. That seemed to have cleared up the TVGOS problem, as now I was able to do the setup. Now to wait to see if data materializes.

I know that there are some hacked firmwards for this unit around, I wonder if who ever had it first tried this and then did a store return after messing it up. Hopefully that's all that's wrong with it. Though I don't know if I'll ever have cause to try any of the DVD functions in it. Since once I establish I can get TVGOS data, that'll probably be the end of its usefulness to me.

Now instead of subjecting some poor random forum to a long rambling thought, I will try to consolidate those things into this blog where they can be more easily ignored profess to be collected thoughts from my mind.
