Well, I've gone and done it.

I ordered one of these digital cameras via eBay.

It has been a difficult process on deciding what my next digital camera would be.

Basically, my main criteria was water resistant, 5MP or more, 3x (or more) optical zoom and uses or can use disposable batteries, and comparable in size to my Powershot S20.

At first I was looking at the Pentax Optio WP, where the only draw back was the batteries. But, then I heard of the Canon SD400 and SD500's...so maybe water resistance could also be given up.

Then I heard about the Ricoh Caplio R2, which a 4.8x optical zoom and uses AA batteries. Lack of water resistance hasn't prevented me from getting shots in the past. Even though the main factor for wanting a new camera is my upcoming cruise vacation. Plus the Ricoh was to come in a nicer looking black body. Problem is Ricoh doesn't seem to sell cameras in the US much, so I was probably looking to import one from the UK...which probably meant finding an eBay seller.

Finally, I read about the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ2....which is to be available in Black or Silver, of course I want Black. And, it has a 6x optical zoom. And, image stablization. And, it still uses AA batteries. Problem....Panasonic seems to have decided not to sell the Black model in the US. So, that meant turning to eBay to get one.

There will probably be another digital camera or two down the road to pad out my growing collection. I'm probably looking at the Nikon Coolpix 8800 and perhaps the next Nikon D-SLR. Haven't decided if I'll sell any of my old digital cameras. But, should I reach that decision, it'll probably be my Nikon Coolpix 5700.

I will probably hang onto my Canon Powershot S20 even if I never use it again, and the Dimage X20 is kind of handy around the house....plus it is one of my expendable cameras (the one I that I've been smuggling into concerts.... ;) ) Though I do have that free digital camera I got for trying out NetMarket somewhere....still haven't opened it up.

Should take a look and see if it might be a candidate for obay (Operation Feed Charity Auction).

Did you receive the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ2 Black yet? If so are you happy with it? I am choosing between this and the Ricoh Caplio R2.

Yes, I have it.

In hindsight, the Caplio R2 might have been a bit better choice.

The 28mm on wide angle side would be one big reason for it over the Lumix DMC-LZ2.

Now instead of subjecting some poor random forum to a long rambling thought, I will try to consolidate those things into this blog where they can be more easily ignored profess to be collected thoughts from my mind.
