The Next Gumby Operation

When I woke this morning I found that the Windows was still busy copying the files across...and it was only about 50% done.

Namely that means I still can't start DVArchive. Or do the other file shuffle...so get free space up from the current <2GB on the other drives (C and E, where E is also a 300GB Seagate Retail Kit drive).

I will probably complete the remaining operations remotely from work, via SSH/tightVNC.

Next on the Gumby operations list, is to add a different OEM Seagate 250GB drive to the system. And further reduce the free space crunch on the 3 current drives, which should allow them to be defraged. Though it'll be short lived, because of the nature of DVArchive.

DVArchive will fill an area as completely as possible before moving on to the next storage area in line. There's a quota option, but it doesn't work....because setting it just means it won't use the area at all. And, if you set a quota on all the areas, it'll report that there's no space available. Even if none of the areas are near quota....and even if you've just added a new empty area with a quota. U-(

Otherwise, one would think quotas would be the solution to prevent DVArchive from filling a drive to 100%. Too bad Windows doesn't have a concept of minfree like on Unix. Though I often change minfree on my Linux drives to 1%. Though Windows is the kind of thing where it seems to want minfree as 20%. >:-(

Now instead of subjecting some poor random forum to a long rambling thought, I will try to consolidate those things into this blog where they can be more easily ignored profess to be collected thoughts from my mind.
