VoIP and my QoS settings

Though it might be something to do with the CODEC used. With Vonage my down rose to about 120kbps (from the normal baseline of about 30kbps)....the up which is almost always maxed....came down to this level. While Lingo only rose to about 60kbps. I don't recall any option to select codec for Lingo, and I use the default 90kbps codec for Vonage. I find the 50kbps worse than either the 90 or 30...and until the WRT54GS, I've had lots of complaints from people I've called (so far I can't tell if the compliants are gone because they've accepted that I have no more landline or that the problems are gone). I had found the 30kbps acceptable, but didn't know if the complaints were because of the codec or latency issues.

If I was using my Vonage for faxing, I'd most likely leave it at 90kbps...but I ported my fax number to Lingo (LNP wasn't available when I got Vonage, and Vonage will only port numbers as primary...so since I would have to get a whole new account, I opted to try Lingo...too bad I can't port my Vonage number). I noticed there's a difference in send times between using Vonage and Lingo....which may in part be due to the codec involved.

Now instead of subjecting some poor random forum to a long rambling thought, I will try to consolidate those things into this blog where they can be more easily ignored profess to be collected thoughts from my mind.
