Xtreme 4x DVD-R vs Optodisc 16x DVD-R

Actually, it is interesting...I discovered that when I had my old 4x DVD-R in the DVR-109, Nero says I can burn at 1x, 2x or 4x. But, with the Optodisc 16x DVD-Rs...my only option is 4x.

It did indicate that slower and faster than 4x for 16x media in this drive depended on firmware version and the manufacturer of the disc....

Interesting that I bought the 50 spindle of the "Xtreme" 4x DVD-Rs back on September 2nd, 2003. Which makes sense, because it was the final reason that prompted me to get a new computer...which I didn't order until my birthday a couple months later. Which was also about when I got my 3rd gen iPod....hmmm.

Meanwhile, I'll probably put an order in for Taiyo 16x discs later this weekend. Though it is starting to get close to my vacation plans...and the point where I need to taper off on the kind of things that might be trying to materialize on my doorstep.

When I did the order for the "Xtreme" discs....they weren't my first purchase of DVD media...nor my last...just the biggest...and I still have a few left. Not to mention that there's a spindle of DVD+RWs (which I discovered aren't compatible in my old DVD player...even though both DVD+R and DVD-R discs work. Though I use DVD-Rs because the people I share shows with at work can read them...except for one person, so far.)

While still somewhat less convienent to master and burn DVDs for show sharing...I've been VCR free in my home for over a year now...so I'm not inclined to go back to that kind of thing. Plus it isn't like I'm the only person that has HD or WS....I wasn't even the first person....

Now instead of subjecting some poor random forum to a long rambling thought, I will try to consolidate those things into this blog where they can be more easily ignored profess to be collected thoughts from my mind.
