Latest iptables tweaks on 'box'

Last night I discovered that the reason local IVS transfers weren't working, was that one of my RTVs was trying to use the loopback method to transfer the file. Except that I don't have loopback enabled on my router...and I don't really want to change that.

What had happened apparently was that the box had tried to start the transfer at one time, when WiRNS was down or it had switched from querying to, and since this wasn't being intercepted by my WiRNS was getting my external IP for the other RTV :|

To get things working last night, I updated my WiRNS configuration to intercept this name as well... and, again the need for loopback has gone away, but I felt the need to look at my iptables setup on box to see why I couldn't get this working.

Microsoft to fix Windows patch | Tech News on ZDNet

In MS06-015 (KB908531) breaks MoonSoftware's FileTargets, I wrote about a Microsoft patch breaking one of my favourite programs. I've also found other things broken by the patch, but none quite as noticeable....

But, looks like Microsoft is going to fix it....wonder if it'll be an automatic patch or something I'm going to have to track down....

MS06-015 (KB908531) breaks MoonSoftware's FileTargets

On Microsoft's Black Tuesday of April 11th, this patch broke one of my favourite programs. Moon Software's FileTargets

Today, I was catching up on files that I had recently downloaded....where the power of FileTargets is that I can then relocate the file to an appropriate location on my harddrive or network.

So I went over to the forum to see if any progress had been made on coming up with a way to have FileTargets working again (other than removing or disabling the patch....) Well, they did have a solution and it does the job.

A post-mortem of a recent trip....

My first trip since figuring out how to use my Blackberry 7100t as a modem was kind of a failure.

Largely because after I had left, I instantly realized that I had forgotten the USB cable.

Aside from not being able to use my Blackberry 7100t as a modem to access the Internet in places where there wasn't free also meant that I could recharge the battery. I had also contemplated packing my travel charger, but I guess I also forgot to do this.

Fortunately the hotel room had free WiFi, and it was a really decent connection so I made extensive use of that. Another less minor thing that I had forgotten to pack was my Where's George stamp. I could enter the new bills that I acquired during the trip, but I couldn't stamp them. Though I set the to one side of my wallet to avoid having to spend them, so that they could be stamped when I got home.

As it was I managed not to spend these. I suppose I could've made a bigger effort to spend cash during the trip if George'ng was important. There were some other bills that did cross my hands, but they didn't stick around long enough for them to be entered. Normally, I try not to think to much about George'ng when I'm traveling.

Apple iPod Battery Settlement

Much to my surprise, I found a letter in regards to this in my mailbox today.

The answer is that I have a $50 Store Credit. It is good until October 7th, 2007.

Hopefully, I'll find the opportunity to use it before it expires.

The Weather Pixie

is now featured on my websites. :>>

I had come across her while looking at somebody else's blog recently (I forget where though), and thought about incorporating her into mine.... though I didn't immediately see where I should. So, I put it off.

Later while looking at weather Konfabulator widgets, I saw that there was one for Weather at least I can have her on my desktop. ;D

Except today while I was trying the various different pixies...I came across one of a guy wearing a "got root?" I had to adopt that one. So, that is one the on here and my other website.

Perhaps someday I'll get a "got root?" shirt....but what I have is a hat with the message, because there used to be this thing called "Hat Chat" at my previous place of work....Unfortunately, I have a rather large head, so buying hats online (or receiving them as gifts...) rarely works out. :`(

Wonder if anybody'll notice that the Weather Pixie on my laptop is actually showing the weather for KTRI rather than KOSU....

New lhaven hda is here....

And, this time I'm gonna try something different for the disk replacement.

I'm doing a mondoarchive of the current hda, and then I'm going to use that to restore to the new disk. I'm not expecting any issues.

There's only 3 (4) partitions on the disk...and the only ones (2) I care about are the ones that mondoarchive would save. Those are /boot and /(root). The data filesystem is empty because it failed (and the other is swap....)

Search all files in XP, regardless of extension

Finally, the answer this this major annoyance I've had with the built-in find on Windows.

What is odd though is that all the competing desktop search products (such as Google's and Yahoo's) also suffer from this same annoyance.

The only hard part of this article, was figuring out where the download link's here

lhaven: The Reconstruction Continues

After recovering the /boot and /(root) filesytems on lhaven, I discovered that the data filesystem on the same disk was also damaged. The difference being it could at least recognize it as a filesystem, so I let fsck to do its damage.

Lots of stuff got disconnected, etc. But, they all look like old and files that I could tolerate losing....

Namely it affected the old /home location (which is now on a different disk, but I had kept the old location as a backup) and what are supposed to be the backup of my iTunes music folder. There was pretty much only one area that I didn't want to lose, and it seems okay.....1 of 3 DVArchive volumes on this system.

Now instead of subjecting some poor random forum to a long rambling thought, I will try to consolidate those things into this blog where they can be more easily ignored profess to be collected thoughts from my mind.
