Setting up another WRT54GS

Well, I decided it was time to setup the other WRT54GS....in anticipation of getting Yahoo!DSL...which I ordered just as I was losing hope of getting Cox in time.... though I ended up getting it just in time, so I was able to check online if I needed to go into work at 12:01am or not :>>

But, I decided not to cancel the order, even though I don't know how to live with landline again (and it is rather expensive considering that it is just basic local only service). There was a time where I thought about running a dual WAN home network, and it looks like I'm gonna do this. ;D

So, to start this process....the first thing is to find my WRT54GS. I tried to remember which box it might have been stashed into, and hoped to myself that I at least marked on the box that it was in there. After about two hours of digging around, I noticed that it was sitting on the bottom shelf of my computer desk. Guess I had previously found it, and set it aside for this future event....

Now to check my laptop so that I can replace the firmware with Sveasoft and load in my various customizations.

Yeah....

I have cable TV and broadband again!

Had to use my own modem, rather than the free one....the installer didn't have my details for what I had ordered, and therefore didn't have that equipment. But, better to get service....and he did land a HD converter (and I had that SB5101 laying around).

Now I'm just waiting for a DPH-540 to appear, so I can do phone....

Let's have a reunion....

Actually, my 20 year High School Reunion will be on September 9th. I had said I would attend, though that was before I transplanted myself to Manhattan, etc.

But, at least I told my boss about it, so it is still a possibility.

Meanwhile, feeling accomplished....I went to Yahoo! and created a couple of groups related to this. One for SWC86 and the other for Zoo90 ;D

D-Link DPH-540 Wi-Fi Phone

Link: http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=485

I've been toying with getting a WiFi VoIP phone for some time....especially since I can't get cell service down in the basement where I work.

Meanwhile, there is also an issue where I can't get local numbers from the VoIP carriers that I belong to. So, I've been thinking of jumping ship.

The only hard part is my existing phone numbers. Some I would like to keep, others I'm less concerned about.

Staying up for an early departure

Back on June 19/20, I blogged that I was staying up over night because I had an early AM flight and decided to just stay up for it.

I found it incredibly difficult to do...and after a while, I seemed to run out of stuff to do online to keep myself occupied. So, I threw in some TV watching to help pass the time.

Well, now I'm trying to do it again.... :**:

Only, I'm finding it even harder to do...because I have no cable TV yet, and no broadband. I'm alternating between using my old AT&T BusinessNet dialup account and my BB7100t as a GPRS modem.

Apparently, I'm in Hell.

And, over here I can't seem to get cable....not even TV. >:-[

And, dialup is very, very painful.

Not too mention expensive, since I just have a basic pay for every single minute on top of a monthly fee plan. Which is AT&T GlobalNet (is that what it is still called? Used to be IBM when I signed up.) so that I could dial in to the net when traveling, though I had mentioned that I'll probably cancel it since I've been able to find WiFi during most of my travels.

Unfortunately, no open WiFi APs in my neighborhood here.... Plus the things I need to do....kind of limited with that route....

I'm 0 for 3

This is my third stay in a hotel in Manhattan, KS...and the third time that I've been affected by a power outage.

Things do not bode well in terms of electrical reliability for this city. But, I'm guess with have to live with this kind of problem now.

Along with the other issues I'm slowly finding out about. :(

Movie: Cars

On the recommendation of a friend, and to kill some time before I leave Columbus, Ohio....I went and saw this movie.

I remembered why I hadn't seen it in theatres, and was originally intending to wait for it come out on DVD. The long (and boring) wait until you can watch the movie....including the wait after the scheduled start time. The loop they were playing while waiting for the start time to roll around was particularly boring....I found myself struggling to stay away

Then the wait before they would play the actual movie seemed particular long, perhaps G rated movies open the door for them to fill the start with a lot more 'junk'.

And, then it was kind of cold during the movie....I was starting to lose feeling in my fingers...and arms and legs were kind of numb as I stumbled out of the theatre....

But, I rate this movie 5 stars. And, look forward to renting the DVD (to see what extras there might be)....

Burr....I'm Cold

In a rare cold summer day....for the first of July.

I'm now trying to get psyched to start the move out.

It is actually too cold in my apartment right now. Even the impossible to keep cool front bedroom is cold. Of course, there are 4 computers running 24/7 along with various other bits running in there ;D

Meanwhile, I drinking some really horrible instant coffee trying to wake up....

I still have stuff that needs to get packed....other than the stuff I needed to have out overnight and this morning....I still have to find a way to get my kitchen stuff (plates, glassware, cookware, bakeware...) and I missed the hall shelf (probably because I parked the portable fridge in front of it after dragging it home from work.....)

Oh well.....

Now instead of subjecting some poor random forum to a long rambling thought, I will try to consolidate those things into this blog where they can be more easily ignored profess to be collected thoughts from my mind.
