Good-bye Lingo

Well, this morning I saw the monthly charge from Vonage hit my card....and it occurred to me that it was time to hurry up and cancel my Lingo account.

I plan to cancel both eventually....but Lingo first....because all I ever get weird calls that must be from exempt telemarketers that don't understand that asking to speak to someone who doesn't exist....when they get my voicemail and then asking again, and then saying they are sorry and good bye....isn't very useful.

They should just not call at all. (or perhaps leave a meaningful message.)

Otherwise, my call volume on the line has been dropping for a long time...the main reason I had it was that Western Europe is part of its 'local' calling area....but my cousin in London is moving to California. And, even then I have only called a few times....mainly use our gmail accounts to keep in touch.

So, I cancelled it. And, it wasn't nearly as hard as I thought it would be.

Wonder how it'll go when I decide that it is time to drop Vonage. |-|

Which actually should be sooner than later...considering that I don't currently have anything attached to the ATA. And, haven't really noticed...since I don't make calls on it anymore, can't even get a 785 area code number and the only calls I get are from recruiters that don't listen my greeting or exempt telemarketers (namely politicians in Ohio trying to annoy me.....perhaps because its a 614 area code).

Though I thought about telling the FTC that the Columbus Dispatch violated DNC....by trying to sell me a subscription until I snapped at the person that I'm in Kansas and not only should he stop to listen, but don't ever call me again.

While I was once upon a time a Columbus Dispatch customer....that was at a number that I had ported to my now defunct Lingo account. So they should never have had my Vonage number....and I ceased being a Columbus Dispatch customer sometime before I got Vonage.

That's because, the only reason I was getting the Columbus Dispatch was for TV listings....but ReplayTV pretty much did away with that need. And, Vonage didn't come until over a year after that....

Lingo came later....when SBC rebranded Ameritech and got permission to offer long distance service....which then gave themselves the right to ignore my PICC freeze and slam me to SBC....and when I complained they disabled my long distance rather than fix it (I wasn't gonna pay them to unslam me...and they wouldn't refund the charge I incurred from them slamming me in the first place).

Somehow I didn't learn my leason...because I don't think I'd have all the trouble with AT&T/Yahoo! DSL if I hadn't gotten a landline from AT&T....

Though I think it would be less agreivating if I cancelled anyways, despite their threat to charge me cancellation fees for ending the 12-month contract for DSL that can't deliver.

Now instead of subjecting some poor random forum to a long rambling thought, I will try to consolidate those things into this blog where they can be more easily ignored profess to be collected thoughts from my mind.
