Solving my Maxtor OneTouch II Annoyance

Armed with the knowledge that I wrote about here, last week I decided to take the plunge and order a pair of enclosures to transplant the drives that were in a pair of Maxtor OneTouch II units. (Both 300GB)

The annoying things would constantly fail to appear after a reboot and require me to open up Device Manager and update the driver to get them to reappear. This problem seems to only affect my XP Pro desktop, because the one on my W2K Pro desktop works fine.

The enclosures arrived today....and I just performed the transplants. At first I was being careful and keeping the parts from the old enclosures, but once I got the first one done. I just threw everything out, and with the second one I just threw each piece straight into the trash as I went along with the extraction.

Looking back it was probably kind of wasteful that I even bought the drives the way that I did. Though it was a better quality enclosure than what I replaced them with. If only they worked.

So far a couple of reboots and the drives appeared both times. Unlike the OneTouch II's which went from every few reboots it would be lost, and updating the driver would require a reboot. To where they would disappear after every reboot, though updating the driver didn't require a reboot.

One odd thing I can see now is that one drive is a 6B300R0, while the other drive is a 6L300R0. Wonder what the differences are....

No feedback yet

Now instead of subjecting some poor random forum to a long rambling thought, I will try to consolidate those things into this blog where they can be more easily ignored profess to be collected thoughts from my mind.
