Leopard Time Machine and PHR-250CC

Now, it wasn't smooth sailing. Using a hint I found, I laid out it as two partitions. A small front partition, a bootable partition of the install DVD. And, the rest for Time Machine -- named 'SIDRAT' ;D

When I get around to having an external drive for Time Machine use at home, I'll name it 'TARDIS' :P

But, it seemed to take forever to ditto the install DVD to the front partition and worse, Time Machine was taking even longer. Like 1GB per hour.

Firewire isn't supposed to be that slow. I decided to try USB to see if it would make a difference. It didn't, though I found that I needed to plug in both USB cables (for extra power) to run in this mode. Firewire only needs just the one cable. So, I switched back.

I searched around using Google (of course) and found messages of other people seeing this oddity, and a few people saying that it has fixed itself and providing no other explanation, etc. >:-(

But, then I decided to try something extra.....Instead of just partition and format, I then went to erase the partitions...and selected to zero out the disk at the same time. It took much longer to 'format', of course. But, it took a fairly reasonable amount of time.

Now this time, the ditto and initial Time Machine backup went at a much better pace. Seemed to average about ~150Mbps, not the full 400Mbps....but it was >100 times after than before! :!:

Now the question is was it a bad thing that when I left work last night, I just picked up the closed MacBookPro and stuffed it into my backpack. Namely, I didn't wake it up to eject the external drive first (which is stashed away in a desk drawer). :??:

Now instead of subjecting some poor random forum to a long rambling thought, I will try to consolidate those things into this blog where they can be more easily ignored profess to be collected thoughts from my mind.
