Sipura SPA-3000 & Broadvoice

The seller was nice enough to recognize that I wasn't born yesterday...and made some suggestions of things to try. I was pretty sure I had tried most of them already...except having it go to a different VoIP provider or lowering the TX gain.

Well, lowering the TX gain did the trick.

All was good, now if only I could figure out how to do the phone to PSTN and gateway features.

Well, after some fiddling I figured out how to dial out via PSTN using the attached phone...turned out the dial plan string I had been given didn't quite match the description I had found with it. But, staring at it for a while, I realized how to make it work. It did a lot more than I expected and more than what I have available to me. Namely I have no second VoIP service for that part of the gateway.

I just have the one VoIP service for both.....which turned out to be necessary inorder to use the PSTN->VOIP gateway feature. The reverse evidently won't work because I need a different VoIP service for the gateway part. Which is okay, since I can't immediately thing of any reason I would need it. When I had first tried it....without configuring the VoIP gateway as the same as my main service (but set to not register, and make calls without registering, etc.) The PSTN would never answer and no gateway to VoIP was possible. I was worried at first that it was because I don't have caller-id service on PSTN, so it didn't know that it was an authorized or any call. But, once I configured the gateway....all calls are now answered on the PSTN side, and with the PIN can get me out on the VoIP side.

PSTN to VOIP would be useful, since I can't make long distance calls from my work phone...but I could call locally to my home phone and then gateway out. Except I'll probably never need to. Because I got a cellphone with some voice minutes, which I rarely use.

But, at least I now have the capability.

Now instead of subjecting some poor random forum to a long rambling thought, I will try to consolidate those things into this blog where they can be more easily ignored profess to be collected thoughts from my mind.
