Upgrading the primary drive in TARDIS

As I was laying in bed, I thought that maybe there's an open source/free solution to this problem. So, I got up and did a quick google search, and decided that I would give UBCD a try.

Eventually, finding a moment to try things today. I rebooted the system from UBCD, and tried it. First one identified the target disk on USB, but informed me that I would have to purchase a different version of it to actually do it. I went through the others...and most wouldn't see the drives correctly. Though g4u eventually worked (had to wait forever for the detection to finish, almost gave up, and then wait forever for DHCP to give up)....but it was only getting about just under 500kbps...that was going to take forever.

But, then I stuck the Acronis Migrate Easy rescue disk into the drive. And, it came up with the Migrate Easy tool. This time setting up the clone operation was just like before, except that a reboot before it started doing anything wasn't necessary.

It estimated 1.5 hours to do things. And, then it was done. I had a dinner party to go to, so I put off the drive switch until I got back.

Everything seems to be working.....

Now I wonder when I'm going to upgrade the secondary drive. I'll make a note to myself to buy a 500GB drive some day....wonder if I need to see about a different enclosure...

It should be adequate for the upgrade, but don't know if the supplied screws are junk or there's nothing in the case for the screws to actually screw into...but it won't close or stay closed in its current condition. Though the next storage upgrade (backups) is probably where that DROBO I keep putting off would go. Which is different from the DROBO (or something) that I want as NAS/TimeMachine backups that I want....

Now instead of subjecting some poor random forum to a long rambling thought, I will try to consolidate those things into this blog where they can be more easily ignored profess to be collected thoughts from my mind.
