Resharing my Internet Connection on my Ubuntu Laptop

Now I tried it the wrong way first....though that was the easier thing to try out first....

Not going to give specifics here, since I'm starting to forget all the things I tried to get to this point.

But, having that retired 10/100 switch I knew I could create a test Wired network...though it was a challenge finding extra network cables. For some reason I've moved to where I don't have tons of extras laying around. Someday I'll have to address that.

But, I got my home WiFi network shared to the test wired network and connected my Eee PC to it to prove that it was working. Then I wondered if I could share the wired connection on my Eee PC to wireless. Couldn't seem to get this to work, guess the wireless adapter in the Eee PC just isn't up to the doing that. But, since I installed the software on my Eee PC....I tried going in the reverse direction.

After much fiddling I ended up with my iPhone connected by WiFi to my laptop which was sharing its wired connection, coming from the Eee PC which was sharing my home WiFi to its wired jack.

It then stopped working when I changed something else....and thinking about it there might be other stuff to try, but I suspect some interaction between firestarter and Network Manager. But, at least I know it's possible....so it'll be part of my bag of tricks should I run into the situation on some future travel.

Though normally, I don't see myself traveling with two laptops (at least not two personal laptops)....so WiFi <-> WiFi will require the purchase of that travel WiFi router. Unless I can find a second WiFi adapter (natively supported) for the laptop and the two will work together, etc.

Now to see if I can do anything productive today....

Now instead of subjecting some poor random forum to a long rambling thought, I will try to consolidate those things into this blog where they can be more easily ignored profess to be collected thoughts from my mind.
