Converted box to use RAID1

Link: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Convert_a_single_drive_system_to_RAID

Discovered a problem after I dropped it to single user to do the work....no more DNS and DHCP on home network....well, there's a secondary DNS, so I figured it wouldn't be that bad. But, what I had forgotten was that I had started running squid on this server and all my other computers were pointed to it.

Well, I toughed it out and continued to do that work. Not sure which was longer, rsync'ng the old drive over....or editing the fstab/menu.lst files....which was kind of difficult since I choose to update all the UUIDs to the new ones...and its hard not having cut and paste ;D

Strange how doing things the old way suddenly seems so much harder now.... Well, the rsync was longer, but I didn't sit and watch it finish.

And, then everything else continued nicely....after first updating the BIOS settings so that it would look at the second drive to boot it. Since the new first drive had no partitions, etc. Now, I'm in the final stretch of having the newly attached mirror get resilvered....or just silvered.... :hmm: And, switching /home to live on /dev/md1 (decided to put LVM on, etc, and not immediately use all the new space of that partition....)

Oh yeah...ran into one other problem in the beginning....turned out one of the 120G drives was DOA...just had to be the first one I connected...wonder if I can get Seagate to exchange it....

So, now I'm waiting for it to all complete, so I can submit this post and do non-computer things for the rest of my New Year's Day.... :))

Now instead of subjecting some poor random forum to a long rambling thought, I will try to consolidate those things into this blog where they can be more easily ignored profess to be collected thoughts from my mind.
