Engadget 1985 - A trip down memory lane....

Link: http://www.engadget.com/entry/1234000430055334/

Wow, I'm feeling nostaglic.... )-o

I sure wish some of the old ASCII art from my BBS (Lunatic Haven) had survived. Unfortunately, it was a rather abrupt transition from the death of my Amiga 3000 to landing on the Windows wagon.

The Amiga 1000 was such a cool machine....my BBS started out on one, I was running a Kickbench in one drive (that expanded the running system into a ramdisk) and the BBS messages on the other drive. The 2MB memory expansion set me back like $1K. It was some time later before I got my first harddrive...$1200 for 100MB was considered a great deal back then (the Amiga and Mac people got together to do a group purchase....)

It was also the machine that I taught myself C on....

Also hard to believe was that the C64 was $895 once.

HD: The Terminal

Decided to start rating some of the DVDs I had intended to rent, but ended up watching on HBO-HD instead....

Largely because after watching this one, it continued to occupy my mind last night.

I rate this 4 stars.

LVW-5007 & TVGOS

Well, I have guide data....I have enough of today, tomorrow and Saturday. And, apparently I also have Thursday and Friday data for next week. I guess that's how TVGOS fills in data....so it'll take a week to get its 8 day coverage?

Just for grins ;D I remembered coming across a DVD+RW laying naked on the floor, so I threw that in and scheduled some recordings.

I can only record a maximum of 6 hours onto a DVD, eh? :?:

That's pretty good I suppose, I guess it seems really small because I've gotten use to my ReplayTVs. Not like the old days where I was using 8 hours VHS tapes for my recording. Plus I have 4 VCRs....both to handle capacity issues and conflicts.

I suppose if it weren't for ReplayTV, a bunch of DVD recorders would probably be the evolution. But, it isn't.

First problem I found was navigating the guide....painful. Compared to ReplayTV, of course. And, on one hand it shows more channels on the screen, but less time (only an hour, instead of 1.5 on the ReplayTV.)

I think beyond this quick recording play...I'll probably never use the box again. If it weren't for the possibility that I might be moving down the road....I suppose I might even just give it away.... :))

gVisitor Map

This is a cool site that tracks where the last 20 visitors to my blog are from.

I think I'll make a donation to increase the number to 100.

Though is that a donation per site?

My latest acquisition - LVW-5007

Link: http://www.liteonamericas.com/us/ce5007.htm

Well, I've acquired another piece of questionable technology for my home.

It is a set-top DVD recorder. Not very useful when it is surrounded by 7 ReplayTVs. Plus it uses only the DVD+R/W's. And, I use primarily the DVD-R/W's. In fact I don't think I have any +R/W media around anymore.

And, I don't need a DVD player...since my Momitsu V880N does much more than the unit does.

So, why did I get it. I got it as a cheaper way to find out if TVGOS would work in my area. Before taking the plunge and getting the Sony DHG-DHD500.

Now instead of subjecting some poor random forum to a long rambling thought, I will try to consolidate those things into this blog where they can be more easily ignored profess to be collected thoughts from my mind.
