UPS is configured.

No big surprises...except not quite enough clearance at the back for plugs. Guess I need a different place to put it.

Annoying that some plugs stick straight out....so need room for those. But, the one plug that is flat....doesn't help either.

Actually, it is just the two plugs. There's 8 outlets on this UPS (my old one had 4). But, right now I only cover the essentials. Only running about 20-25% load of the UPS...so maybe I could put more on it. Perhaps something to think about when I have cause to rewire everything.

TigerDirect.com still having problems.

Just got an email today, saying that according to their records my order was completely shipped 7 days ago. So, I should have everything by now. :??:

This of course, contradicts the email I got on August 12th, informing me that the final piece of my order has finally shipped...which I'm expecting UPS to show up with it tomorrow. :**:

I guess I'm still looking for my next preferred vendor of keeping my technology fed :p

Need that new UPS

It is starting to get extremely annoying with my UPS.

The slightest power glitch (which tend to occur with regular occurrence now) causes one of two things to happen. Either the power does a short blink or brownout, and my computer shutsdown and stays down.

Or, there's a slightly longer blink, and the UPS drops everything. Which causes my computer to reboot (because I have it set to ON after power loss).

The thing is I did order that UPS I had talked about. But, TigerDirect is delaying for some reason. They had it 'in stock' at one point...but they say they are doing a warehouse upgrade which can delay things. Though the other items in the order have shipped already. Including the 250GB harddrive I recently blogged about, which originally was out of stock. The UPS is listed as 'in process'....so does that mean they are trying to find where the inventory is? :**:

Migrate Easy to 250GB drive

Link: http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/migrateeasy/

Well, today after a spent day combing the job boards...I decided to take some time for myself.

I purchased Acronis' Migrate Easy 7.0, and proceeded to try upgrading my old W2K bookpc from 80GB to 250GB.

Everything seemed to go smoothly, though I tested the recovery CD and it wouldn't work in the machine. Didn't try the safe recovery disk, though not having USB and such is kind of useless...since that would limit recovery efforts....like my backup is a Maxtor OneTouch II.

Anyways...I then switched the drive and started to boot. Couldn't remember how to get into the BIOS, tried tapping on the usual suspects. But, it would keep continuing through the boot. Finally, I just wailed on the one....and then it did go in. Probably punishment for turning on quick boot.

Noticed a problem....the BIOS can only see 137.4GB of the disk.

Letting it continue, at first it looked okay....only some minor weirdness....but each successive reboot (and there were two, as part of it detecting a new [system] disk....) things kept deteriorating.

So, mad scramble to switch back to the old disk....so WiRNS (and my ReplayTVs) can stay happy.

Lingo Fax Test to eFax

Link: http://www.efax.com/en/efax/twa/page/homePageFree

Well, I rebooted my Lingo adapter and set out to try sending a fax.

The only fax I could think of trying was my free eFax account.

It dialed, I heard something that resembled tones...but nothing connected...and then fast busy. Other times I got the 'try your call again' message.

So, I tried a friend's eFax account (also a free one)...that fax went through first try. And, it seemed a bit faster than previous times that I've faxed stuff to eFax via Lingo (comparable to what I was getting on Vonage). So the boost in speed is working...

Now I wonder why my free eFax account isn't working? This is what I have my Lingo number forward to if busy or no answer....since my Lingo number is my fax machine. And, I want to make sure I can get faxes even if my machine is busy or not working.

Especially, given my current situation...and the potential to need to depend on faxing again....

Lingo's Connection Enhancer

Link: http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,14055556#14066780

Evidently they hid this feature under "Support" rather than the more intuitive "Manage Features" area of my account settings.

So, now I can boost the CODEC selection for the default 30kbps to 90kbps. This should improve the ability to send faxes from my Lingo service.

It seems to imply that it uses the 90kbps automagically for faxes already....though maybe that's just for incoming? :??:

Now to go home a reboot the adapter and find an excuse to try it out.... ;D

Now instead of subjecting some poor random forum to a long rambling thought, I will try to consolidate those things into this blog where they can be more easily ignored profess to be collected thoughts from my mind.
