Scrubbing Bubbles Automatic Shower Cleaner

:## - What a waste of money that was.

Today, I came home and there was a funny smell permeating my apartment. It was familiar, but I couldn't place. Then I walked into the bathroom and the floor felt funny through my socks....later I realized it was kind of wet. Then I looked at what was supposed to be full, new bottle in the Scrubbing Bubbles Automatic Shower Cleaner unit....it was empty.

>:XX

Well, I guess sometime while I was out, it decided to come on by itself and stay on until it had sprayed itself all over the bathroom. And, then to conceal the evidence it stopped running, to see if I would notice.

The thing is that a couple months ago, the thing had stopped working...and I've been meaning to take it down and pitch it.

I was only able to use it for the two included bottles plus one additional. It has started getting flaky during the 3rd bottle. It was getting harder and harder to convince it that I wanted it to come on. I tried new batteries, but that didn't make a difference.

Later, after I got a 4th bottle...I found that I couldn't get it to come on at all anymore.

I was contemplating buying a new machine during the long weekend and replace it as part of some other much needed spring cleaning activities.

But, why should I buy another piece of junk to replace this one? :??:

Guess I'll have to find some other product to support my lazy bachelor lifestyle.

It's more official....I'll be going to Alaska

My tickets have arrived in the mail today.

Now, I had opted to having Princess arrange the flights rather than my agent. Princess is going with United. Wonder if they know that which frequent flyer programs I'm under. My agent knows which programs I'm in, but I doubt Princess did or cared.

Last time I went on a cruise, I didn't bother joining the FF program to get credit for the flights related to that cruise.

But, now I actually already belong to some programs where I could get points for the flight. Just wonder which one I should present when I fly? I have both Air Canada and United Airlines. I just have zero points under United, because each time that I've flown...they have credited the points to my Air Canada program. Largely because the flights were to Canada.... Actually the cruise starts in Vancouver, so it does kind of still do....:D

FCC Requires Interconnected VoIP Providers to Provide Enhanced 911 Service

Link: http://hraunfoss.fcc.gov/edocs_public/attachmatch/DOC-258818A1.pdf

It's official...VoIP has to connect to real 911 service.

This is kind of a good thing, I suppose. Both my Vonage and Lingo service have had 911, now I'm in a SBC area and they wouldn't let Vonage tie in directly...until now.... Don't know what kind of 911 service Lingo provides.

Though I wasn't that concerned about 911 over VoIP, though I activated it just because it said I had to if I wanted it and I figured it wouldn't hurt anything to do so.

Just that the only time I had need to call 911....it was by landline and they had to wait for my to regain consciousness and call back before they could find out where to send the ambulance (I had been at the location for almost a year and I was correctly listed etc, so I don't know where the failure was...)

Though I wonder what happens if your local 911 service get's your location and callback number...and the callback number isn't local. Or not even in the same state or country. Would they call you back? :??:

I wonder about computer or mobile interconnected VoIP service. Or what happens when I through my ATA in my suitcase for use while on holidays.... :lalala:

Netflix Takes Over Wal-Mart DVD Rentals

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. is turning over its online DVD rental business to Netflix Inc., signaling that the world's largest retailer couldn't beat the Internet upstart at its own game.

Somehow I'm not that surprised that Wal-Mart failed....though it is good news that they 'declared' NetFlix the victor ;D

PODWAVE - Portable iPod Stereo Speakers

Link: http://www.macally.com/spec/ipod/podwave.html

My latest acquistion....I thought it would be cool, but I'm somewhat disappointed.

I have to crank my iPod all the way to get a barely tolerable sound level and it is a touch bigger than I had expected.

But, compared to the options I have for listening to my iPod without headphones...this is better than what I had. ;)

Firmware update of Momitsu V880N

Link: http://www.momitsu.com/v880nupdate.html

Well, last night I took the plunge and updated my Momitsu V880N to the latest (April 27th, 2005) firmware. Playing AVI files over my wireless network worked fine. Don't know about the other improvements that are supposed to have been made since October 18th, 2004 firmware I've been previousily using.

The network playback problems were the reason I held off updating, the previous release (February 23, 2005) reported also fixed this problem introduced in the November 5th, 2004 firmware....but it was marked as a beta, and I didn't feel like trying it.

After this update I did leave the screensaver timeout as the default 10 minutes...since that is another problem that is supposed to have been fixed in this release. Though the first thing I've noticed is that the screen formatting is a bit weird...but I guess I can live with that it all the functionality I currently need is present....

VoIP and Faxing

Strange thing, since I made the switch to using Lingo (instead of landline) for my fax machine, I've had a lot more situations where I've needed to send a fax.
:??:
Originally, I had tested one fax number and found that Lingo was slower than Vonage for the send, but it worked and with the DSL filter it made a significant improvement.

But, since then all the faxes I've tried to send have failed if I use Lingo. I always end up switching my machine over to my Vonage box and the send works first time.
:**:
So, I guess I'm thinking that I'll sign up for the Add-a-Fax option for Vonage, and move my fax machine over. Though I'll keep Lingo. Perhaps it'll be the box I toss into my suitcase for when I want to talk VoIP with me. It does have the advantage in being a router, while my Vonage box is only an ATA.

Though as a result, I hardly use Lingo. Though it does offer features that I would like to make more use of... :?

Perhaps there'll someday there'll be the changes in my life where I'll get more use of the service....

IDF 2005 Wireless USB Demo : Gizmodo

Link: http://www.gizmodo.com/gadgets/peripherals/idf-2005-wireless-usb-demo-038936.php

This sounds it would be a cool gadget....might be a better solution to a problem I'm contemplating....

Namely, it is time for a new printer...the one I'm eyeballing has a much bigger footprint than my old one, so I might have to put it in a different room and then how do I use it comes into play.

A network printer is an option, though not really. I suppose rearranging my computer room is another option, but that's too much work...especially all the digging that would be involved. Like there's a printer desk under all the network stuff and papers that is growing in the pile behind my chair |-|

Though if I do get a laser printer....network will probably be the way to go, since there's also a power issue in my computer room.

But, outside of my computer room...wireless is pretty much my only option. Since the room's position in my apartment doesn't make it easy to run wires along the floor without crossing traffic areas (and I'm already uncoordinated enough with my positional vertigo problems :|)....

Hmmm....
