Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ2 Digital Camera Review

I wish I had read this review before I bought the sums up how I feel about the camera now

Who It?s For
Gadget Freaks ?Image stabilization is the coolest feature on this camera and could keep gadget freaks busy shaking the LZ2 for about ten minutes. But it?s all downhill from there for the gadget lovers. Keep looking.

I guess I'm I want to risk eBay'ng for the Ricoh Caplio R2 or go with the Canon Powershot S70 (or see if there is a new model in this line, S80 :?:), as the real successor to my current Canon Powershot S20. |-|

Meanwhile, I'm still considering if a Nikon Coolpix 8800 is in my future (or if there'll be a new model along this line as well...;D)

T-Mobile Personal Coverage Check

Looks like they are making this info available to the public finally.

I wonder if I would've still signed up had this been the case.

Because when I visited the lcoal T-Mobile store, and asked about my coverage...they showed me a screen that looked like this, based on the address of where I work (which is what I was concerned about).

6500 Emerald Parkway, Dublin, OH

Problem is that the location on the map is not where the office is.

The Dreaded Time Change

I'm really starting to dislike the time change....>:-[

I've barely made any dent in changing all my clocks this morning....almost like I need to write out a list to make sure I don't miss any now....

Meanwhile...since accessing the service menu clears the clock on my TV, this is the time I check how many hours of life I've used so far. It reads 1754 hours. Weren't these things rate for 8000 hours? I guess I'll hit or break 2000 by the time it is 1 year old. Wonder if I should still plan on getting a spare this year.

Next I checked my SA8000HD DVR, while the clock updates automatically....recordings have a way of not working after the time change. Though I created all my recordings to not be time dependent. Sometimes it records a little more than it should, but for the stuff I record with is tolerable.

It mainly records primetime broadcast HD, with the occasional movie from HBO-HD and SHO-HD...there was one movie scheduled for early this I checked that. Instead I was greeted by the dreaded LIST failed message. ARGH. Had to hard boot it again. Calling support won't help, because this is all they'll do to close it as resolved. It has to stay down to make them interested in fixing it. Its not like having a box with a harddrive going 24/7 can't be done.

I did use to record shows from SHO-HD....except it was only the one....Dead Like Me. So, I keep wondering why I keep the subscription.... Of course, I'm also paying for HD-Gold, which they threw in for a 1 month free trial....and I hardly ever watch anything from those channels either....

Oh well, back to updating clocks.

SanDisk Ultra II 1GB SD card received.

Well, I received the SanDisk Ultra II 1GB SD card that I bought off of eBay.

Before popping it into my Panasonic DMC-LZ2, I decided to pop it into my Palm Tungsten|T to see what VFSmark would think about it.

The results are:

VFSMark Results SanDisk Ultra II SD 1GB

File Create: 324%
File Delete: 200%
File Write: 16%
File Read: 122%
File Seek: 236%
DB Export: 42%
DB Import: 264%
Record Access: 218%
Resource Access: 210%

VFSMark: 181

That's pretty poor, seem to vaguely recall this is why SanDisk was despised.

1GB SanDisk Ultra II Secure Digital

It occurred to me, that I might as well order the memory card I intend to use with my coming digital camera. Since, there's less thought involved in that. At least that's what I thought.

I went to, where I had a selection for a 60x SD card. It was a brand I didn't know (ATP), but it was cheaper than SanDisk. Unfortunately, they were out of stock. They seemed to be out of stock of the all the purported to be 60x SD cards.

So, I thought about where I would go looking for memory occurred to me that there wasn't a reason why I shouldn't use eBay. Most of my memory cards have been purchased this way, and I haven't had any bad experiences yet.

So again I looked at price....had settled on PQI...which also purported to be a 60x SD card. 9MB/s is considered 60x, and 10MB/s is 66x.... I tried tracking down retail shops that sold it, product information and product reviews. Didn't find much useful....until I came across a site that sold the 60x PQI SD cards, but under had the minimum transfer rates as minimum 6MB/s read and 4.8MB/s write....that's not close to 60x.... SanDisk claims sustained rates of 9MB/s write and 10MB/s make their 60x speed claim. And, the price wasn't that different. <$10.

I have been somewhat hesitant with SanDisk, because I had a SanDisk SD card before...the it wasn't that great in performance. Though it didn't make any claims, and neither did the Lexar that I replaced it with...but the Lexar was much faster than the SanDisk. And, it seemed to be concensus among others online to stay away from SanDisk. Though hopefully they've improved.

I don't think I have the means to test it for speed, unless it is so horrible that it is noticeable. The current SD card using devices have less expensive unknown brands from eBay as well. Except for my other digital camera (Dimage X20)...which I got a PNY SD card, but I haven't do any tests for speed. It just happened to be the cheapest when I ran into Best Buy looking for memory to feed what didn't turn into a disposable digital camera, yet.

The only thing I had on my list for Digital Camera related acquisitions is a supply of Oxy-Alkaline batteries and some 2500mAH NiMh batteries and a good charger.

I'm probably gonna got with ordering from Thomas-Distributing for the NiMh batteries and charger, while the Oxy-Alkaline/Oxy-Nickel is a toss up between eBay and I'll probably end up going the eBay route....unless there is some price movement. The eBay seller is cheaper than, but with shipping it is close to the same price. While with, I could combine it with other stuff and get free shipping. And, I have other stuff on my wishlist that I plan to get in the next few months.

Annoying Re ferrer/Comment Spam

In the quest to cut down on Re ferrer&Comment Spam, I started looking for hacks to this blog software that might help.

A couple days ago, I made the change to require login to leave comments. I have this control on my LiveJournal (which I was introduced to by a friend that has a LiveJournal), actually it was this requirement that lead me to having a LiveJournal of my own. :P

Today I came across some other hacks, namely I implemented these two:

  1. hackblog@wonderwinds - Slowing down the spammers
  2. hackblog@wonderwinds - Closing the door on comment spammers

Wonder if it is possible to implement the equivalent for closing the door on trackback spammers....:?:

1 ... 114 115 116 117 119 121 122 123 124 ... 141

Now instead of subjecting some poor random forum to a long rambling thought, I will try to consolidate those things into this blog where they can be more easily ignored profess to be collected thoughts from my mind.
