F5D7130 & WPA update

Well, I opted to switch back to WEP...found my throughput had dropped off using WPA, and for streaming video... speed is more important than security.

iPod bounce

ARGH!!! 88|

I bounced my 4G 40GB iPod for the first time today..... it survived. Wonder how many lives it has left now? I didn't track how many times I bounced my 3G before it died.

The most common way of bouncing my iPod....the headphone cord get's caught on my chair or clothing and I get up from my cubicle and the iPod launches off of my desk as it tries to follow me out.

For some reason...Friday afternoons around now...I'm

PRTG

I've always been curious just how much traffic was flowing in and out of my home network, namely the pattern of the IVS usage.

Now I have been monitoring my broadband connection using the monitoring service at Broadband Reports.com. Which gives me graphs that look like this:

Which just shows that my latency goes up when I'm sending lots of shows.

SA8000HD DVR: Passport 1.5.159

Link: http://www.lhaven.net/sa8000hd

This morning, while processing Poopli requests, I noticed that my SD STB had been rebooted during the night. Fortunately nothing scheduled to record in the early morning today, so nothing affected.

I don't track versions on the Pioneer STB, so I don't know if it changed or not. But, it made me wonder if the HD DVR had been upgraded. And, sure enough it is now Passport 1.5.159.

Checking out Spam Bully

Link: http://www.spambully.com

Found out the SPAMAssassin settings are rather limited on my new hosting provider. Having it on results it too many false positives and no options for tweaking/training it.

The old provider had a .spamassassin/user_prefs file in the home directory of the shared account where I could control things. Though the new provider allows you to control which accounts are filtered by it. Useful, because I've had problems with eBay sellers not being able to reach me after an auction because of my spam filter.

Anyways, I've opted to not use it, because of the high level of false positives.

Digital Cable Outage

Went to sit down to watch some HD programming from last night, to find a shock. :o

Letters were scrolling across the front of my DVR.

VajaCases fiasco cont'd

Well, there's been an annoying new development with this case.

My American Express card has been charged by FedEx for the cost ($23.45) of sending the wrong case, I received, to the correct customer. Even though I never gave any of my account info to FedEx (but it was the card that I charged my Vaja order to).

I don't know who to scream at first. >:XX

iVod Remixed for iPod 4G Remixed (40 GB)

Link: http://www.vajacases.com

Knowing that I wanted 'softer' case than the SpeckProducts Flipstand I had on my 3G, I jumped on ordering a case from Vaja when I saw they were taking orders.

Well, after a long wait and a the fiasco where they switched shipping labels...resulting in me getting somebody's Rio case and them getting my iPod case. And, having us cross FedEx the cases to each other.

My case arrived....

Last Drive Upgrade?

Saturday night (into early Sunday AM) I upgraded the drive in the 5040 Refurb to 250GB. After all, I'm recording all that HD in Medium...and I'm keeping 4 of each show...that adds up to a lot.

I'm surprised by the number of show requests I get on Poopli for shows I've recording from HD.

When I put the unit back, I put it in at an angle. So that the blue LED would be visible from where I sit....was having trouble telling if it was on or not. So many different reasons why it might not be responding to my remote, etc. Or not getting the expected video output. Need the visual indication to narrow reasons down.

While I was at it, moved the light to the otherside of my rack...and set it inline with the screen (or slightly behind it)....keeps the light from this lamp off of the front. Another improvement....

Meanwhile, the new DVD player is on hold....but I'm still planning a UPS shuffle....

Now instead of subjecting some poor random forum to a long rambling thought, I will try to consolidate those things into this blog where they can be more easily ignored profess to be collected thoughts from my mind.
