Suncast Deck Box/Bench

Wow, this thing is big....bigger than I expected. Guess, I didn't pay attention to the other dimensions. I wanted large enough that I could set a portable barbecue into....and not wider than the depth of my deck. But, I didn't consider how large that would be over all.

The deck depth is 55", and this deck box/bench is stated as 53" wide. So, it'll fit...and the interior space is rated as deep enough to accommodate the grill (and its cart) I was looking at (Weber Q 220). It doesn't reflect that I've now looking at the Weber Q 120 as the grill I will likely acquire now. I do hope to have some other furniture on my deck, eventually....something for lounging around.

Anyways...I started assembling it in my living was pretty cramped working on it...when I wondered if it would fit through the patio door after I got it together. I didn't quite have enough room to tilt the lid into place (or turn it around so that I would have room to tilt the lid, and then later turn it around so it would go out onto the deck in the right orientation). So I moved it out onto the deck. It just barely slide through, completely open, patio door.

Seems the pieces are such that they could go together into more than one style of Suncast product. Extra tabs and such that don't mate with anything else....but the annoying one, is the hole on the front that suggests that you can lock it...has nothing that corresponds to it on the lid, so it can't be locked. It isn't so much that I want to keep people out of what I'm storing in it, but to keep the lid can get pretty windy around here....

Guess I'll have to investigate some other way to making sure the lid will stay closed...or just see if it'll be a problem or not.

Now to see about the BBQ.

Stuff at home

Today I came home from "Every Other Friday" at the So Long Saloon...and found a big box sitting by my door. It was the Suncast Outdoor Extended Deck Box/Seat I had ordered on the weekend. I was kind of hoping the delivery would coincide with the dishwasher service call. But, fortunately FedEx ground was kind enough to leave it on my doorstep. It is pretty big and heavy, so it wasn't going to blow away....and I trust my neighbors.

I ordered it from this site, instead of an iGive merchant....because they offered free shipping. Not the lowest price. Though a lower delivered price. The other place I was looking had it for like $40 less, but then it would be $80 for delivery.

Its late, I'll look at that tomorrow.

Meanwhile, I'm gonna order that new dishwasher that I had been looking at yesterday. It has been 24 hours, and I think its the one to go with. The budget for the replacement was $350 or less. Not including delivery, installation and maybe the in-home warranty.

I'm usually mixed on whether to get the extended warranty....though I usually end up getting it. I got it for my HLN4365W1, but never used it. (the renewal managed to find me, even though I didn't give them my new address....the cost of extending it further would be more than it would cost to buy a new one....which is what I would do if it failed....maybe getting a 50" 1080p with the LED light engine...the bezels are thin enough now that it should just squeeze into the opening.). The last time I bought a dishwasher, I had gotten the extended warranty on it...but never had any trouble with it. But, the dishwasher here is just over a year old...

Anyways....I opted to go with a white front....keeping with the color of the other appliances in my kitchen (do plan to upgrade some of them eventually, but not in the near future...which could potentially mean never...) Plus I'm not sure how stainless would look against the cabinets/flooring/counter tops.....

Plus didn't really feel the $50 difference in price was justified, especially at this low end. My parents paid like $1400 for their new dishwasher...though at that end, I suspect stainless steel is the only non-custom front option (or at least I would expect it). Looking at just white units under $350, opened the range where I could get more choice on what kind of features I wanted in my dishwasher. I narrowed to two choices....a Kenmore and a Maytag.

The broken dishwasher is GE, so it was out immediately. The dishwasher I had purchased for my first home was a Maytag. And, Kenmore has been good to me so far...and its what my parents recommended too ;)

There were a couple other brands...but narrowing on features that were desirable for how I use a dishwashwer and the extras that were nice to have. It came down to these two (actually three, but it was 2 Kenmores and a Maytag. I think the other Kenmore was the old model, it had a lower model number...and when I went to order, it didn't appear....). And the leaning was for the Kenmore. And, then I saw that it was on sale until tomorrow for $50 less. Didn't see any other Kenmore models appear that would drop into the range. Though they have a mail-in rebate promotion for 25% off on [any] dishwashers over $399, so that's probably probably why it was an online mark down for models there. But, I don't trust mail-in rebates....wouldn't expect Sears to let me down, but my rule is the now price has to be what I'm willing to pay now...the rebate is something that might come later.

The model number is 16252 (02216252000) in case you want to see what I ordered....their links don't work for sending, including their "send to a friend" option. I tried that, and it said it was no longer valid....implying that I had bookmarked the link. But the "send to a friend" option specifically said was going to send them a link that could be viewed directly.

Wonder when they'll be able to delivery/install it? Guess I might have to resort to doing a few dishes....:**:

Dishwasher Update

Well, a service person from Sears showed up to look at my dishwasher today. Kind of caught me off guard, she was hot ;D

But, she informed me that the pump would need to be replaced, and it would be $352 for the part. :..(

Of course, my immediate thought was to replace it....though I did think a little bit, since dishes have been piling up and .... and the idea of getting to watch her replace it

But, I got back to replacing it and paid my $59 minimum charge for the service call and went back to work.

I had looked on for dishwasher prices, and the first question that came to me was whether to get a white or stainless steel exterior. :?:

LHAVEN lives

Not to be confused with, my home linux server known as 'lhaven' horked a disk on Sunday. It was the primary slave drive...a 300GB/16MB MAXTOR harddrive. The other drives are Seagates (300GB), the primary with 16MB cache and the secondary with 8MB cache.

This horked disk contained /home. I was kind of annoyed. Aside from the home directories my account and various services, it also contained a significant portion of my DVArchive storage on the system. I lost all my Farscape episodes....including the ones I have never seen (Farscape was the reason I got into ReplayTV, having moved to somewhere that didn't carry SciFi at that time....though I never used it for such, because I couldn't get broadband. Hopefully SciFi will do another Farscape marathon....)

The system would kind of recover, so I figured I could read data from. It was the active processes writing to the disk that would eventually bring the machine down again. Namely, BOINC, MRTG and well as MMC and DVArchive. So, I tried to find space elsewhere to copy stuff over. I managed to get all of the home directories, minus the DVArchive content into free space on the primary drive. I got some of the DVArchive content, but it came up weird...and I started removing incomplete stuff before I realized that it was probably all there, but the DVArchive.XML file had gotten corrupted. At this point I wrote off the Farscape stuff, pruned other content that I'll probably never watch (and some that I had watched via other channels....need to upgrade the home network to actually watch the content on this box).

I then set in my mind that on Monday I would go to the Computer Store in the K-State Student Union, and finally buy a harddrive. Apparently, I always stop and look at the harddrive section on every visit there. Too bad the person that made the comment, wasn't there when I made the purchase.

Haven't printed a photo in a while...

....not sure where my supplies are, but there were a couple of 4x6 sheets in my HP Photosmart 8450.

Unfortunately, it looks like for not using the photo cartridges for a long time means they no longer work. The pictures came out horrible, and running a deep cleaning cycle didn't help. :`(

Still, since the heads are part of the least it'll just be a simple matter of buying new cartridges. Unlike my previous printer....well, that's why it isn't current ;D

Don't know when I'll get around to buying new photo cartridges for this printer, but I will be in need of a new black cartridge soon. Wonder which box contains the printing supplies. Guess now that I own the place, it is time to start going through all the boxes and figuring out where stuff goes or 'goes'. And probably figure out where the extra furniture will go and get to buying that.

I won my argument...

...but I'm sad :..(

My mother was disappointed that I didn't sink all my cash into the down payment for my condo. I only paid the minimum that was required to close. Sure, if I worked at it, I could come up with an extra 5%. And, it would reduce my monthly payment by about $45 (saving over $16k over the life of the loan....5% is a little over $6k).

But, the plan was to immediately have $5k (and by year end $6k) stashed away as my emergency fund. Perhaps even more than that down the road.....don't know what my comfort level is. Though have twice experienced lay-offs, both lasting 6 months....I should probably plan on rebuilding to this level. And, since my PITH is about 50% more than what I was paying for rent during my last stretch....

Anyways....I won my argument for having an emergency fund now rather than reduce my principal by 5%....because my dishwasher broke today. >:XX

Tracking my Mortgage in MSMoney 2006 Deluxe

Well, I tried entering stuff, but it didn't seem right. It especially looked wrong when I went to look at my monthly report today. It showed my network had increased by the appraised value of my home, and it was staying there. No accounting that I was owing money to a mortgage.

So I searched around....and came across this article:

How to create and use a home mortgage escrow account in Microsoft Money

Which was useful, because I was trying to figure out how I should track that aspect of home ownership. But, couldn't seem to find info on how to best track the mortgage part in the Microsoft KB.

Then googling around I eventually found this:

Purchasing a house in Money (first time buyer) [Microsoft (MS) Money FAQ and Help]

I went through the procedure...but as I was going through I found under details for home, I could associate a loan to it. But, the wizard wouldn't see the mortgage (loan) that I had created first...wanted to create one new. And, it was better in that it would calculate details that better fit a mortgage rather than just a loan. So, I deleted everything and started over again with 'home' first and the associated a 'loan' in details.

It looked better, however the monthly report was still not quite right. It showed for June that my net worth jumped by the purchase price, and then dropped by the loan amount in July.

This was because it was using July 1st as the start of the loan, rather than the closing date June 29th. I tried changing the date, but it wouldn't let me pick a date before July 1st (the day I created it).

Doing another google search, led me to this article:

Backdating a loan or mortgage account [Microsoft (MS) Money FAQ and Help]

Unfortunately, it didn't work.... :..(

Today I became a home owner....again.

Well, I've done it again....I now own my own home.

Kind of different than last time, because I have already been living in it for the last year. Plus its the whole in the USA thing. Different than how things are done in Canada.

Not sure what else to say....guess because I've already lived in it, it is less of a thrill than there would be otherwise. But, it has me thinking of what kind of stuff that I've been putting off buying....will I buy now that I own this place.

Such as will I get a new, high efficiency and/or super high capacity, washer and dryer? A gas grill for the deck? A bicycle? Hmmm....a new computer? a new digital camera? or two? a 50" HDTV? other gadgets?

I have two Internet Browser icons on my Blackberry

Over the weekend, I went up to Toronto for my brother's wedding. When I returned to the United States (first landing in Denver), my blackberry got a registration email and suddenly another "Internet Browser" icon appeared next to the one I already had.

It does everything the first one did, and has the same name. I tried hiding it, but that causes both to hide. I tried moving it, that worked until the phone was restarted. Then the other one moved as well.

I tried going on to BIS and having the service books resent. I didn't solve this problem, though I did get a flood of email messages. They were the work ones, so I guess I didn't notice that this wasn't working.

I thought about seeing if I could remove the Browser and reinstall it, but I never used the software from Sprint to set my computer up. So, I didn't have means on my desktop to reinstall it using the Applications installer. I went to the Sprint website, and grabbed it. Noticed that it was a slightly newer version. Meaning it would cause an upgrade. Decided that I would just let it do the full upgrade and see if that resolved it.

It did....
