Got a call to donate blood today....

Link: http://www.bloodsaveslives.org/

....only problem is, I just donated yesterday. But, I heard on the blood mobile yesterday that things are pretty bad....like for the 27 county area that is the Central Ohio region....there is only a 0.2 day supply of O-. And, the goal is to have a 3 day supply of each type.

While, I'm A+, every bit helps.

WeatherPixies Revisited 2

Link: http://www.weatherpixie.com/

In a previous post (now missing), I written how I was running three instances of the Yahoo! Widget for WeatherPixies on my laptop...and showed the pixies for them in the article.

Though I found out on a recent trip that the Widget consumes a significant amount of CPU, which is particular bad when you are running on battery....where the norm is to get 1.5 hours if I'm lucky...I suspect a combination of all the added widgets and perhaps the addition of memory to my laptop...I'm now lucky if I get more than 1 hour of use.

I guess I could really use that new laptop...even though a 1.8GHz Pentium 4M still falls in the range of what new laptops are running. Battery life will definitely be more of a factor when I get to looking.

Also the images were impacting page load times on my site. (though the last.fm images also introduce a significant impact to page load times....though it was worse when I was using the javascript/playable ones).

The other annoyance is gvisit seems to have stopped working....it is showing that I've had no visitors...and I was curious to see if it recorded the hits that I made while traveling.... Though of more significance is the current resource 'outage' affecting the boinc stats counter.

Apple releases 13-inch MacBook

Link: http://news.com.com/2100-1041_3-6072664.html

I've been thinking that I might want a smaller laptop for my next go....wonder if this will fit the bill. Wonder how big of a difference it is from the comparably optioned 15.4" MacBook Pro?

Though the price difference is pretty significant that I might not want to know....

And, if I went with the 13-inch MacBook...would I go with white or black? :??:

b2evolution News - The NEW central antispam blacklist

Link: http://b2evolution.net/news/2006/05/12/the_new_central_antispam_blacklist

Yeah...the b2evolution antispam server is back.

I went with solution 3.

  1. I added 3 lines to my conf/_advanced.php file.
  2. downloaded the new b2evocore/_functions_antispam.php file and remerged the antispam rechecking diffs into it.
  3. and then extended the server changes to the b2evonet_report_many() function, so that I could report all the spam that I had gotten during the down time

Now to wait for everybody else to do the same, and see what other spam people have seeing (or that I've letting pass...because it is hard work separating between all the other blogs versus splogs. XX( )

b2evolution hacked to ping pingoat

Link: http://www.brotherson.com/index.php/2005/08/27/b2evolution_hack_ping_pingomatic

If all goes well this post will ping pingoat, along with the other configured ping destinations.

I basically followed the referenced blog posting and comments, except substituted pingoat for pingomatic, and the xmlrpc_client string is:

$client = new xmlrpc_client("/goat/RPC2", "pingoat.com", 80);

Next will be to turn OFF the redundant pings....which would likely be all the others, except for b2evolution.net (even though it currently isn't working.)

Except that the RPC seems to be down indefinitely, just as pingomatic seems to have also gone away....

Movie: Mission: Impossible III

Link: http://www.netflix.com/MovieDisplay?movieid=70041961&trkid=190153&strkid=33526745_0_0

I did something rare, I went to a movie theatre.... It was strange having the whole theatre to myself. Wonder what they do on the times where nobody is there.

Anyways, I'm rating this 4 stars.

:rs::rs::rs::rs::ys:

Wonder if I'll rent the DVD....guess it depends on what kind of extras it provides....

Problems with "Latest iptables tweaks on 'box'"

Link: http://lawrence.chen-online.net/index.php?title=latest_iptables_tweaks_on_box&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1

For what was apparently the first time since I made this tweak...I was trying to participate in a webcast. And, I was getting very inconsistent and choppy results that didn't make any sense. Because things had been working great the week before.

At first I blamed my ISP...but couldn't find any evidence of problems with other applications and transfers. So, it was just the one application that wasn't working.

Though with all the chatter of ISPs that block certain protocols...they could be interferring with the a/v stream.... There was report of a bad 'line' during a call the other day....so maybe an issue for me, though I think there were other issues (like the fact that the other ends insist on using speakerphones.)

Anyways, back to the issue with the 'webcast'.....I started trying to think of what changes I had done to my network last weekend.

I'm in a firefox world, eh

The other day, I stumbled on an extension for Firefox called "IE Tab"....where one of the reasons for it was to simplify checking what a page looks like in IE.

And, today....I tried looking at some of my pages using IE....namely this blog and my home page....well, the blog wasn't too bad under IE, except for some formatting differences and the fact that my hit counter generates XBM images which IE won't render....at least that was good.

But, my home page looked a little bit rougher...but it still works, and who really cares about IE.

Now instead of subjecting some poor random forum to a long rambling thought, I will try to consolidate those things into this blog where they can be more easily ignored profess to be collected thoughts from my mind.
