They don't make them like they used to.... Mr. Coffee MRX35 #fail

So this was their 35th anniversary edition coffee maker...I guess it isn't there 35th anniversary anymore. Because, this morning I woke up to no coffee. Pot empty...grounds dry...water still in reservoir. Oh its cold, guess the heater died.

The coffee maker was almost 15 months old. I guess I throwing out my old Black & Decker coffee maker this summer was a mistake...from 1990, it still worked...the rubber seals weren't quite as good as they used to be, but at least I would still have good coffee this morning.

Have to settle for instant for a while I guess.... :**:

Mr. Coffee MRX35 Coffee Maker, 12-Cup, Programmable

After many years of great service, my Black & Decker Space Maker Coffee Maker - circa 1990 - finally started to fail....water appear from where it shouldn't be, guess the another seal has reached the end of its useful life. I'm going to miss this coffee maker, they just don't make them like they used to.... :..(

Black & Decker does make new Space Maker Coffee Makers, and I had contemplated getting the latest model. However, its designed for only undercabinet installation. My old Space Maker has never been installed this way, though it something I had considered, along with a Space Maker Toaster Oven....and my first house. Never did figure out the template, guess it was good...since the coffee maker has followed me around the continent and 5 moves.

The special thing that I liked about it was that it had a removable water tank...and it did fit under cabinet (just sitting on the countertop below it).

After a quick search of Coffee Makers available via Amazon Prime, I narrowed my choices down to a few...some realistic and some not, Space Maker was one of the choices. But, ultimately sitting on my countertop was ruled the way I would go, and I (still) wasn't ready to spend a month's salary for a coffee maker. I settled on the MRX35 from Mr. Coffee.

Well, since I decided I couldn't afford to make it OLF this year, but had already requested the time off back in May...I decided to go with a 'staycation' and do some stuff around home (which I haven't made any progress on yet) and shoot some deliveries to my home during the time. Though ignoring that I spent more than OLF on medical expenses recently, I've probably again spent close to OLF on the things I've ordered for delivery during this 'staycation'. Though most of the things were things I would get eventually, just some a bit sooner than planned and others were getting bumped regularly in the budget plan...

Anyhoo, back to the new coffee maker.

Having received it among my UPS deliveries this morning, I promptly set out to set it up and brew my first cup of coffee with it. At first I was going to put it where the old coffee maker had resided. But, since I need access to the top of the machine to pour water into it, I soon concluded that wouldn't work. I looked moving it along the counter top closer to the sink (where I might be able to tip the pot to the opening...or alternative water vessel, since its awkward pouring to my right with the coffee pot)...but the stock cord isn't long enough and I didn't want to use an extension cord (don't have anything of just the right length and not something I want to have to wait to buy....while most of the extension cords I know where to find would be major overkill, I'm sure somewhere in my boxes is a short one that would've worked....an old block heater extension cord :>> )

So, I decided to rearrange my counter a little bit and put the machine out near the edge on the other side of the sink (kind of lose the space behind it, but it was kind of dead space already.)

Now, first I ran some pots to clean the machine...and then I finally brewed my first cup. I had used up the last of my coffee earlier this morning, so it was time to open the first new coffee from Boca Java (arrived yesterday)....I picked the Bom Dia Brazil Coffee. I had the machine on regular, perhaps I'll switch it to strong. Years ago, as a teenager, I had some mighty fine Brazilian coffee, but I've never been able to find anything like it since.

Not sure about the beeper, it is kind of obnoxious....but it could also be useful. The problem would be I wouldn't want it when I'm using the delayed brew feature, but it could be good for the mornings when I forgot to set it up the night before. Or definitely on weekends, when I sometimes get too involved online to get a pot before the 2 hour timer ends. (new machine does have a 4 hour option, but that requires remembering to switch between the various options for the 2 different ways I just want to have coffee.)

:hmm:

Now instead of subjecting some poor random forum to a long rambling thought, I will try to consolidate those things into this blog where they can be more easily ignored profess to be collected thoughts from my mind.
