Prof. Jerry Hathaway's House

Since they didn't give the seconds or direction for the longitude in "Real Genius", it probably isn't exact....

And, I don't see any houses near here. Though it is near Oxnard, maybe I'm just the lack of longitude info is the problem. Now my parents are currently doing their annual golf/snowbird thing in Oxnard right now....

Actually, if you go across the whole minute....there is this area....

Meanwhile, I've come across this twice on Showtime HD...though I've only watched mainly just the ending to it. I remember watching this when I was younger....still kind of cool.

BTW, if you flip the end up in China..... 88|

HD: The Prince and Me

This is the 3rd time I've seen this (first on DVD, twice on HD), and I'm still rating it 5 stars.

HD: As Good as It Gets

I had previously seen this on DVD, but when I turned on my DVR was playing, so I found myself watching it. To the point where I looked at my schedule to see if I had to ax some other recordings to make sure I wouldn't get interrupted.

Apparently "Joey" didn't make the cut it was missing my from my guide, but "Scrubs" would get in the that got the ax. I wasn't going to touch "NCIS" or "The Unit".

This time around, I'm rating this 5 stars.

Over on NetFlix, I had rated the DVD only 4 stars. I don't think it is because it is in HD, but just something about watching it again and how I seem to connect differently with it (perhaps something about my circumstances....) :lalala:

Old HDTVs will show Sony Blu-ray movies in HD

Thanks to an "image constraint" flag on the new discs, movie studios could prevent any disc player from outputting a full-HD signal from that player's component-video jacks. Instead, you'd get a picture about the same as DVD-quality; to watch in HD, you would need to use the HDMI output ? a connector that didn't even exist when HDTVs first went on sale in 1998.

Sony says it will not put the flag on its initial wave of Blu-ray titles,

Sony says all of its Blu-ray titles will be flag-free for the foreseeable future,

I guess this is good news, and probably means Blu-Ray will become the defacto standard like VHS over Beta :P

Because, my HDTV monitor doesn't have an HDMI port....and I don't plan to replace it anytime soon. My previous TV was over 21 years old, before I finally replaced it.

OTOH, maybe they don't build TVs like they used to. My dad recently took the plunge and got a HDTV.....because his 6 years Sony TV suddenly stopped working, and he was told that it would be cheaper to buy a new TV than to get it serviced. And, I think I might have recommended the Sony....:**:

Wonder when I'll be the position to buy a Blu-Ray player??? and how long before I start renting Blu-Ray titles??? owning Blu-Ray titles???

Decided to do something about the flaky SELECT....

Over time my URC-6131 remote has been getting harder and harder to work the select and arrow navigation on my ReplayTV menus.

I had tried battery swaps and various things, but finally accepted that I may have to resort to opening up the remote and applying the FAQ response for select button problems with these style of remotes.

So, while killing time after the arrive of my new 'box' and before my upcoming phone interview....I found myself trying to pry open the remote (while watching some shows from my ReplayTV at the same time)....

Well, as it was reported there was this 'liquid' under the select button....I cleaned the pads and put the remote back together.

While I had it opened, I also pushed the IR LED forward...which I hear will help widen its range.

Well, reworking the buttons...things aren't any worse than before. I suppose it has improved a little bit...but it still isn't 100%. :..(

Hopefully the remote will last for as long as I keep my ReplayTVs going.....

'box' is here....

...and while there are no IVS transfers in progress, so in theory I could do a quick swap with little impact.

I do have a couple of phone interviews scheduled for later this afternoon, where a problem in the swap might cause I guess I'll delay doing things until after those. Plus it'll give the computer a chance to warm up.... :P

Upcoming 'box' upgrade

According to UPS, an IBM NetVista off-lease refurb Celeron 1.8Ghz with 256MB/40GB/CDRW/NO-OS machine that I ordered to replace my current 'box' will arrive on Monday. The old 'box' was an off-lease from a state auction (via eBay) Celeron 433MHz with 128MB/6.4GB/CDROM/NO-OS box....

Meanwhile, it just occurred to me...that after the upgrade, this Linux machine known as 'box' will move from being my slowest BOINC minion to 2nd or 3rd place....well, there's only 4 minions.

Now instead of subjecting some poor random forum to a long rambling thought, I will try to consolidate those things into this blog where they can be more easily ignored profess to be collected thoughts from my mind.
