Tracking my Mortgage in MSMoney 2006 Deluxe

Well, I tried entering stuff, but it didn't seem right. It especially looked wrong when I went to look at my monthly report today. It showed my network had increased by the appraised value of my home, and it was staying there. No accounting that I was owing money to a mortgage.

So I searched around....and came across this article:

How to create and use a home mortgage escrow account in Microsoft Money

Which was useful, because I was trying to figure out how I should track that aspect of home ownership. But, couldn't seem to find info on how to best track the mortgage part in the Microsoft KB.

Then googling around I eventually found this:

Purchasing a house in Money (first time buyer) [Microsoft (MS) Money FAQ and Help]

I went through the procedure...but as I was going through I found under details for home, I could associate a loan to it. But, the wizard wouldn't see the mortgage (loan) that I had created first...wanted to create one new. And, it was better in that it would calculate details that better fit a mortgage rather than just a loan. So, I deleted everything and started over again with 'home' first and the associated a 'loan' in details.

It looked better, however the monthly report was still not quite right. It showed for June that my net worth jumped by the purchase price, and then dropped by the loan amount in July.

This was because it was using July 1st as the start of the loan, rather than the closing date June 29th. I tried changing the date, but it wouldn't let me pick a date before July 1st (the day I created it).

Doing another google search, led me to this article:

Backdating a loan or mortgage account [Microsoft (MS) Money FAQ and Help]

Unfortunately, it didn't work.... :..(

Let me know what didn't work in the bottom link (email or via the contact form on the website), and I'll try and provide some assistance.

The backdating stuff usually works (assuming you're going back before the current year).

Now instead of subjecting some poor random forum to a long rambling thought, I will try to consolidate those things into this blog where they can be more easily ignored profess to be collected thoughts from my mind.
