The taxi scheduled to pick me up at 8am from the Hilton, showed up just moments before 8am. Apparently, the driver had been idling outside of the Embassy Suites for some time before realizing he was at the wrong hotel. But, I was none the wiser until he told me.

No free WiFi at either DTW or ORD. Even though the PA announcement seemed to give the impression that was free, and that I needed to set my SSID to 'concourse'. The only SSID I could find was 'Boingo Hot Spot', and it wanted money...like $6.95 for an hour or $9.95 a month for the first 3 months...didn't look to see what it would cost after the 3 months or what kind of commitment or lock in. If I'm going to sign up for a Hot Spot service, it would have to be something that would be useful to me here in Manhattan. Though it was the same network doing WiFi at ORD, at least the SSID there was 'concourse'. Though the posters said secure SSID concourse, but 'concourse' was an unsecure SSID.

It did cross my mind about looking at wireless broadband service, but it was hard to navigate the few sites I glanced at with my Blackberry. And, if I did get it...I'd probably want to use my personal laptop....which is another thing I would need to buy....and don't know which service will work with a Linux laptop. It should probably also work with Mac OS X and the work MacBookPro...but the intent is that it would be a secondary consideration. Though I don't know how often I would need another broadband service for a laptop. Since it would mainly be at home or at work, both of which have wireless access.

But, getting a Linux laptop will still be somewhere on my list of computers to acquire. I just wasn't planning to be buying 4 computers this year....

Though I do plan to scale back my plans to buy that coffeemaker as expensive (or more) as my bed....though I have a sudden interest in acquiring tea and tea related accessories. Probably too warm now to be looking at chocolate related acquisitions.
