Finally set up what will likely be the last coffee maker I ever have....

Link: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002LAREDS

Near the end of August, I started an experiment to kick caffeine....but not chocolate. :lalala:

To replace coffee, it was either decaf coffee or second+ tea leaves (quick steep and throw first cup out)... For first thing in the morning it was dependent on how many times I had made tea from my current set (or how long they had got left out)....or relying on my coffee maker to automatically brew a pot in the morning.

I was also running low on my good tea from Boca Java...and I'm still getting automatic shipments from Boca Java. And, I had switched my Boca Java shipments to send decaf.

So during the work week, it was mainly decaf in the morning...tea in the evening...and on weekends...tea all day.

But, then it happened...another coffee maker bit the dust...on Monday, September 26th.... After some mourning, I decided to buy a new coffeemaker using Amazon Prime (and one-day shipping) and some Amex points. It arrived September 30th.

I went with a Black & Decker DLX1050B as my last coffee maker.

I still had coffee left when my next auto delivery from Boca Java arrived....this time holiday (halloween) flavors in decaf....and I still hadn't gotten to setting it up.

But, having a moment while making supper, today...I decided it was time to set it up.

As I was setting it up...I decided that this would be the last. Because I now see that Boca Java has tea available, and while there are some good decafs for the occasional consumption, I'm not liking it for regular consumption.... Though for now its easier to have decaf waiting for me when I wake up in the morning, than tea. But, perhaps someday it won't matter which is easier...or something.

Probably a lot of pressure for a Black & Decker coffeemaker....though not surprising, since my original coffee maker...of nearly 16+ years was a Black & Decker SpaceMaker. It could go under cabinet, but I never got around to getting the necessary spacers to make it go under the cabinets of my home in Medicine Hat. And, its simple shape made it work sitting on my counter, with various supplies sitting on top of it. But, the new spacemaker models aren't shaped that way....so when it finally came time to replace it...I had gone with the Mr. Coffee machine for its form, and when that died.... form became less important, so I got the KitchenAid one...and now that its gone, form ceased to be a matter...so I'm back to having a Black & Decker coffeemaker.... for now....

Hopefully, Boca Java will come back with my favorite...Green Tea Passion. Though they seem to be doing bagged teas, rather than loose teas.... hmm....

Gripe on Mr. Coffee MRX35 Coffee Maker

Sometimes I just have small rants, and they just don't feel like enough to write about on my blog....but it results in long stretches of silence and they often go unsaid.

But, here's a peeve that keeps coming up. The glass pot of my new coffee maker. Unless you pour very, very, very slowly...its going to dribble coffee all over the place (on to the floor).

I have never had trouble with my old Black & Decker coffee maker, I guess the tapering of the top of these new pots is just so that this'll happen.

For a 35th anniversary, too bad they didn't make an old style pot that doesn't dribble coffee.

Mr. Coffee MRX35 Coffee Maker, 12-Cup, Programmable

Link: http://www.mrcoffee.com/Product.aspx?pid=122

After many years of great service, my Black & Decker Space Maker Coffee Maker - circa 1990 - finally started to fail....water appear from where it shouldn't be, guess the another seal has reached the end of its useful life. I'm going to miss this coffee maker, they just don't make them like they used to.... :..(

Black & Decker does make new Space Maker Coffee Makers, and I had contemplated getting the latest model. However, its designed for only undercabinet installation. My old Space Maker has never been installed this way, though it something I had considered, along with a Space Maker Toaster Oven....and my first house. Never did figure out the template, guess it was good...since the coffee maker has followed me around the continent and 5 moves.

The special thing that I liked about it was that it had a removable water tank...and it did fit under cabinet (just sitting on the countertop below it).

After a quick search of Coffee Makers available via Amazon Prime, I narrowed my choices down to a few...some realistic and some not, Space Maker was one of the choices. But, ultimately sitting on my countertop was ruled the way I would go, and I (still) wasn't ready to spend a month's salary for a coffee maker. I settled on the MRX35 from Mr. Coffee.

Well, since I decided I couldn't afford to make it OLF this year, but had already requested the time off back in May...I decided to go with a 'staycation' and do some stuff around home (which I haven't made any progress on yet) and shoot some deliveries to my home during the time. Though ignoring that I spent more than OLF on medical expenses recently, I've probably again spent close to OLF on the things I've ordered for delivery during this 'staycation'. Though most of the things were things I would get eventually, just some a bit sooner than planned and others were getting bumped regularly in the budget plan...

Anyhoo, back to the new coffee maker.

Having received it among my UPS deliveries this morning, I promptly set out to set it up and brew my first cup of coffee with it. At first I was going to put it where the old coffee maker had resided. But, since I need access to the top of the machine to pour water into it, I soon concluded that wouldn't work. I looked moving it along the counter top closer to the sink (where I might be able to tip the pot to the opening...or alternative water vessel, since its awkward pouring to my right with the coffee pot)...but the stock cord isn't long enough and I didn't want to use an extension cord (don't have anything of just the right length and not something I want to have to wait to buy....while most of the extension cords I know where to find would be major overkill, I'm sure somewhere in my boxes is a short one that would've worked....an old block heater extension cord :>> )

So, I decided to rearrange my counter a little bit and put the machine out near the edge on the other side of the sink (kind of lose the space behind it, but it was kind of dead space already.)

Now, first I ran some pots to clean the machine...and then I finally brewed my first cup. I had used up the last of my coffee earlier this morning, so it was time to open the first new coffee from Boca Java (arrived yesterday)....I picked the Bom Dia Brazil Coffee. I had the machine on regular, perhaps I'll switch it to strong. Years ago, as a teenager, I had some mighty fine Brazilian coffee, but I've never been able to find anything like it since.

Not sure about the beeper, it is kind of obnoxious....but it could also be useful. The problem would be I wouldn't want it when I'm using the delayed brew feature, but it could be good for the mornings when I forgot to set it up the night before. Or definitely on weekends, when I sometimes get too involved online to get a pot before the 2 hour timer ends. (new machine does have a 4 hour option, but that requires remembering to switch between the various options for the 2 different ways I just want to have coffee.)

:hmm:

Now instead of subjecting some poor random forum to a long rambling thought, I will try to consolidate those things into this blog where they can be more easily ignored profess to be collected thoughts from my mind.
