CPAP Night Five

This night was not too different from last night. Other then a slight rearrangement of stuff around my bed (due to the introduction of a PowerSource 400 and another Night Stand, so now my CPAP machine is completely on the night stand and the hose comes straight off the back instead of deflecting off my alarm clock (CPAP was as far forward without its feet being off the stand, and the alarm clock was as far back the same...and in opposite corners)....now the alarm clock has moved to the other night stand. Might help me from turning it off before I'm completely awake. Though I think the CPAP will have a bigger effect on stopping that from happening. The main changes would be that I washed the nasal pillow using baby shampoo instead of dish soap and the humidifier was filled with distilled water.

Didn't notice any difference humidifier wise, though didn't really expect to. Still have it set lower than I would like to avoid rain-out. According to the tracking number, my order containing the cover was processed yesterday in Nashua, NH....so probably no chance of priority mail getting it to my box today. So, it'll have to wait until next Saturday's trip to my box to get it. Of course, if they had sent it to the shipping address I had specified on the order....I'd have it much sooner. Perhaps I'll have to explore other measures for rain-out prevention in the meantime....

But, I did notice the change to baby shampoo....sadly there was hint of baby shampoo smell instead, when I first put on my mask. Guess I need to work on my cleaning technique. In the morning there was still that smell after the mask was removed, and nose is sore again....wonder if I should give the next size down another try.

I did get up once during the night....got a sip of water while I was up, but not because I had to.

I also did dream last night, don't know if that was good or bad....I guess I was hungry....

CPAP Night Four

Well, last night was different...I turned down the humidifier to prevent rain-out, it didn't feel as comfortable as it was the night before. I got a note that my cover has shipped, only its going to the wrong address. It hate it when companies ask for shipping address, but then ignore it and send items to your billing address. Now I have to wait for it to arrive, and then wait for a Saturday when I can make it down to the UPS Store. They did apparently upgrade the shipment to go by priority mail, which just makes it more annoying.

During the night, I had a dream....don't recall the specifics, except that I could tell I was having one....so I woke up, and found that I had rolled over and knocked my mask part way off...and had opened my mouth.

What air was getting up my nose, was coming out of my mouth...

So, I got up and made a trip to the bathroom and the kitchen....and then back to sleep.

Then, I woke up a second time...it was close to before my alarm... So, I decided to just stay up....rather than make a trip to the bathroom, put mask back on and try to get some shuteye during the 45 minutes that was left before the alarm.

Taking the mask off, there was that strange smell and my nose was feeling sore. Wonder if I'm just smelling the part that was being covered by the mask....

Wonder if I'll look strange if I bought Lansinoh (I normally never go to that section of the grocery store, but I was there yesterday when I was looking for baby shampoo). But, people swear by it for mask soreness...and it doesn't contain any additives (so no worries about stuff in it reacting with the mask silicon seals.)

Meanwhile, I'm not sure which way I'll go. Keep humidifier low or risk drowning....

Woohoo, UPS was here....

First night with CPAP

Well, I survived. I got home late, I then called my mom and talked for a while, and then I finally started getting ready for bed.

There was a struggle trying to get comfortable and putting on the mask and such in the dark. And, it seemed like I was getting up to use the bathroom more in the first hour than I had done before. Though there have been nights before where I seem to be going every 5 minutes for the first part of the night.

Once I felt the mask was on and I had the machine going. On one hand the lack of backlight on the LCD made it hard to see how it was set, but it didn't really matter...because I could feel whether ramp was selected or not. Then it was that the blue lights of the buttons was really bright. Maybe I'll buy a night stand for the other side of the bed, and see if that works.

I soon seemed to figure out how to swallow with the mask on, and not inflate my ears. Hopefully the initial discomfort of the mask will fade once the heated humidifier shows up. It was bothersome with the cold dry air blowing on the edge of my nostrils.

Now that I'm not all wired up, I decided to try sleeping on my stomach. I often start this way (in the winter time) and then roll over to my back for the rest of the night. It was a problem finding a position on the pillow where the mask didn't shift to leak a lot. I found myself holding the mask in position with one hand as I laid this way. Eventually, I gave up and tried to find a comfortable position laying on my back.

During this part I felt the pressure of my Sleep Number bed was off, but I found that control wand to be dark and non-responsive. I tried unplugging it a few times, the pump clicked a few times when plugged back in...but the wand remained dead. >:XX It is the one annoying part of my Select Comfort bed....this time its only like 3 months old, and it hasn't fallen off the bed or anything yet. Wonder what I'm going to do now.

Then somewhere during all this I went to sleep. And, I slept until my alarm went off. It was strange, because I didn't feel like a waking dream....but then I remembered that I had a mask on my face. It didn't seem all that strange breathing wise.

I don't feel any more awake then I normally do. But, I didn't stay in bed snoozing as much as I normally do....though that could be the need to rip the mask off once the alarm switches to the beeping. And, then I didn't feel the desire to switch it back to radio and continue snoozing. Will need to work out how cleaning the mask every morning will best fit into my morning routine now.

Perhaps tonight, I'll try the cradle cushion....

Now instead of subjecting some poor random forum to a long rambling thought, I will try to consolidate those things into this blog where they can be more easily ignored profess to be collected thoughts from my mind.
