Sony PC 2.1 Speakers - SRS D25 - White

Finally got around to setting up these 'new' speakers. Wish I hadn't, but once I started I was committed.

My old Altec Lansing speakers, which had come with my first Windows computer (after that computer, I was into the building my own from scratch...and then when I bought systems again, it was either without speakers or the included ones were real junk).

But, these pretty good sounding speakers had been having issues....the susceptibility to GSM interference was something that I have lived with, but something else seemed to be going....sometimes. Though not enough for me to actually do anything about it.

'cause back in April, I bought these Sony PC Speakers...but never got around to opening the box and setting them up. But, I've been trying to empty out my bedroom so I can setup new furniture...so it was time to open this box and do something with it.

Well, it turned out to be a major problem. First it was a lot of work to extricate the old speakers from my mess. But, then the real work of making the new speakers fit became a much bigger problem.

It is hardwired into one mess. The Altec Lansing speakers...the PC line cord unplugged from the subwoofer module, as did the 2 speakers...and the 2 speakers could be separated. Was a trick find where the power cord had snaked off to. The Sony speaker on the other hand....well.

Next all the wires on it were too short....I previously had subwoofer under desk with speakers over LCD display.... But, with these the subwoofer has to go on desk (which is probably also necessary since the on/off & volume control is on the sub unit). And, finding a clear spot on desk to put it while also still being able to position speakers so that the are left and right of where I sit....argh :##

And, then the power cord was short, so I couldn't plug it into the outlet that I had used before....so I plugged it into the back of my UPS (since its on the desk, though my LCD monitors block the view to its LCD). And, I found that the PC cable was just as short...so it was push and shove stuff on my desk to try and get just close enough to PC tower on floor to connect, while still have the left speaker still be on my left.... >:XX

Anyways...the moment of truth was delayed a little bit, because I had first plugged it into the wrong jack on the back of my PC...but it sounds pretty good otherwise. Though I've only tested it with the sound setup tool and various system sounds.

Quick test of some tracks with iTunes, says its also pretty good with that. And, iPhone 3G is sitting where it usually sits, there hasn't been any GSM noise so far.... :p

So I guess it'll stay for now. :**:

Now instead of subjecting some poor random forum to a long rambling thought, I will try to consolidate those things into this blog where they can be more easily ignored profess to be collected thoughts from my mind.
