Tracking my Mortgage in MSMoney 2006 Deluxe

Well, I tried entering stuff, but it didn't seem right. It especially looked wrong when I went to look at my monthly report today. It showed my network had increased by the appraised value of my home, and it was staying there. No accounting that I was owing money to a mortgage.

So I searched around....and came across this article:

How to create and use a home mortgage escrow account in Microsoft Money

Which was useful, because I was trying to figure out how I should track that aspect of home ownership. But, couldn't seem to find info on how to best track the mortgage part in the Microsoft KB.

Then googling around I eventually found this:

Purchasing a house in Money (first time buyer) [Microsoft (MS) Money FAQ and Help]

I went through the procedure...but as I was going through I found under details for home, I could associate a loan to it. But, the wizard wouldn't see the mortgage (loan) that I had created first...wanted to create one new. And, it was better in that it would calculate details that better fit a mortgage rather than just a loan. So, I deleted everything and started over again with 'home' first and the associated a 'loan' in details.

It looked better, however the monthly report was still not quite right. It showed for June that my net worth jumped by the purchase price, and then dropped by the loan amount in July.

This was because it was using July 1st as the start of the loan, rather than the closing date June 29th. I tried changing the date, but it wouldn't let me pick a date before July 1st (the day I created it).

Doing another google search, led me to this article:

Backdating a loan or mortgage account [Microsoft (MS) Money FAQ and Help]

Unfortunately, it didn't work.... :..(

Today I became a home owner....again.

Well, I've done it again....I now own my own home.

Kind of different than last time, because I have already been living in it for the last year. Plus its the whole in the USA thing. Different than how things are done in Canada.

Not sure what else to say....guess because I've already lived in it, it is less of a thrill than there would be otherwise. But, it has me thinking of what kind of stuff that I've been putting off buying....will I buy now that I own this place.

Such as will I get a new, high efficiency and/or super high capacity, washer and dryer? A gas grill for the deck? A bicycle? Hmmm....a new computer? a new digital camera? or two? a 50" HDTV? other gadgets?

I have two Internet Browser icons on my Blackberry

Over the weekend, I went up to Toronto for my brother's wedding. When I returned to the United States (first landing in Denver), my blackberry got a registration email and suddenly another "Internet Browser" icon appeared next to the one I already had.

It does everything the first one did, and has the same name. I tried hiding it, but that causes both to hide. I tried moving it, that worked until the phone was restarted. Then the other one moved as well.

I tried going on to BIS and having the service books resent. I didn't solve this problem, though I did get a flood of email messages. They were the work ones, so I guess I didn't notice that this wasn't working.

I thought about seeing if I could remove the Browser and reinstall it, but I never used the software from Sprint to set my computer up. So, I didn't have means on my desktop to reinstall it using the Applications installer. I went to the Sprint website, and grabbed it. Noticed that it was a slightly newer version. Meaning it would cause an upgrade. Decided that I would just let it do the full upgrade and see if that resolved it.

It did....

The end of Lunatic Haven?

The issues with might mark the end of Lunatic Haven....

Lunatic Haven was born as a BBS in 1987, and it ran until 1997. It was resurrected in 2001, when I was looking to have more permanent email addresses. And, decided the solution was to have my own domain name.

In looking at how to do this, I came upon a web hosting provider. And, set up the email addresses and forwarders to fit my needs. I was also using free web hosting, and decided to move that over as well.

Over time, the web part expanded and contracted depending on my mood. But, the email remained the constant. After a couple of years, I jumped to of reliability issues and problems with email.

With, my online usage grew....since I had much more storage, I could set up more pages to share the pictures I take.

Later I wanted another email domain, which then grew into this site.

So, once again it comes down to email as the main reason to have a domain as I look to where I might go next, I may opt to go email only in the next. Though it is hard to completely walk away from the website. Perhaps I'll come up with a redesign of my site....

Gumby Continues

Well, it continues to live....seems to be getting sicker and sicker, but I won't let it die.

Last week, the harddrive gave me trouble. While reformatting and restoring from backup had it working, I had ordered a new Seagate 7200.9 120GB drive to replace the old 5400RPM Samsung 120GB drive. As it turned out the old Samsung drive was 120.1GB and the new Seagate is 120.0GB, at least according to the BIOS auto-detect.

The Retrospect restoration when smoother and faster, only because I knew the steps better now.

This was supposed to be the weekend that I upgrade the 120GB SATA drive in my desktop with a 500GB SATA drive, but that will probably wait until the next long weekend now. Hopefully, one that I'm not on call for. Since it was lucky, because I had to do some remote system work this morning...

Meanwhile, I did slip away at least to take the plunge to get new shades B-)

Hopefully, they'll arrive in time for the upcoming trip (my brother is getting married).

It continues....

....the insanity of buy tech accessories for stuff I don't own or isn't for personal reason reasons.

The motivator this time?

I got a Motorola KRZR K1m for work. Using the EC-500, calls to my deskphone will optionally also ring through to this cell phone. It was partly because the on call cellphone will go away, with the number forwarding to either a person's work or personal cellphone when it is their week on call. I didn't want those calls going to a personal cellphone.

And, our workgroup seems to be standardizing on the KRZR (other units had gotten RAZRs, but the KRZR wasn't availble then).

I got the phone on Tuesday. One of the first problems is they had no belt holster available for it, the generic non-OEM one they stocked interfered with the side buttons. So, I went looking on eBay for one. Later I decided to take the plunge and buy a microSD card for it, though I didn't immediately know why....don't really need to use the camera part that much, and I already don't use my iPods much right now. Though the fact that I can use the MP3 player without headphones might be okay.

But, then I discovered that my blackberry charger didn't charge the phone all. Turns out dual charger does some kind of sensing, and didn't like the KRZR....while it would let it have power to run plugged in, it didn't give it power to charge. Fortunately it doesn't take long to charge on the supplied charger, and battery life is I can charge it up once in a while at work. Plus the 'dumber' blackberry travel charger will probably work, otherwise I do have other USB plug style chargers available from other gadgets that might work.

So, I'm not buying another charger for it...and if I were, I'd probably make work pick that up.... ;)

But back to the phone. It doesn't have a regular 2.5 jack on it, and it didn't come with a mini-USB to 2.5 adapter. And, the adapter isn't cheap, but I prefer over-head type headsets, because in ear pieces don't stay in my ear and my eyeglasses are painful enough, that I don't need clip on ear or temple types adding to that discomfort. And, the phone doesn't support stereo bluetooth headsets, and again would require the use of a special stereo headphone, or the adapter. Their special headphones is cheaper than the adapter. Though if I got the adapter, I could use my big over ear noise reduction headphones....though it sure would look strange.

Searching around, I found that they do make an over-head bluetooth late last night, I went online and found a place that had this as well as the special stereo headphones for the KRZR....and order them.

Now to see if I can geek out the sounds it makes.... ;D

Oh yeah, I have already set aside ~1.5GB of MP3s that I plan to load on to the 2GB microSD card that I've ordered for it.... )-o

Anybody remember hardcards?

Well, the Tempo HD would be the modern equivalent. I forget what I was searching for when I stumbled upon this. But, when I saw it....I decided it would be the thing to try in my continuing quest to squeeze more life out of my poor P-III 933MHz machine.

I was using a CF card for swap, but it didn't squeeze out the performance gain that I was looking for. And, seems to have decayed as well. Perhaps a 7200RPM internal drive will help things, plus the extra internal storage will be helpful for other things as well.

So, now having a 100GB 7200RPM drive for it, I set out to try it.

TD Waterhouse -> TD Ameritrade & MSMoney

Recently, TD Ameritrade completed its combination of us former TD Waterhouse users on their site. The letters all implied that the process, starting May 11th to May 14th, would be business as usual. Even though I would have new account numbers, I would continue to use the same checks, the same debit card, the same signon information.

But, first thing early Friday (May 11th) morning, I was no longer able to access my account using MSMoney. >:-( I kept going through the new setup, which is still basically the same. I still had my special MSMoney login, but it wouldn't work. Since I was departing for a business trip that weekend, for a week, and I hoped that it was just a temporary problem due to the transition process....I put off calling TD Ameritrade to ask what was up.

Well, I'm back, and it still doesn't work. Just as I was about to call, on a whim I decided to plug in my site userid/password instead of the special login that the online service setup keep telling me that I needed....and it worked. :**:

I wish somebody had mentioned this to me in either the letters mailed to me or the numerous emails, or even on the website on the popup about changes (which contained something about changes affecting Quicken users).

I wonder if they fixed the annoyance of how cash management is down in the OFX feed? :|
