New SA8300HD/HLN4365W1 Discovery

Not sure which to attribute this discovery to....but the other day (Saturday night) I was doing one of the rare times of watching live TV.

I was watching my Calgary Flames on TV.....

I decided to use the SA8300HD DVR to do the live TV viewing of this, rather than task the ReplayTV that was already recording it or one of the other boxes....largely because I was already switched to the DVR for other HD viewing I had been doing at the time, and then decided to switch to viewing the game in progress.

I thought that the normal output of grey pillars was what I'll have to live with, even though there's no fear of burn in on the display and it is distracting against the black border of the screen.

But, I decided to hit change the aspect of the display on both the HLN4365W1 and the SA8300HD so get the black pillars. I'm sure I'll remember to switch it back....

HD: As Good as It Gets

I had previously seen this on DVD, but when I turned on my DVR was playing, so I found myself watching it. To the point where I looked at my schedule to see if I had to ax some other recordings to make sure I wouldn't get interrupted.

Apparently "Joey" didn't make the cut it was missing my from my guide, but "Scrubs" would get in the that got the ax. I wasn't going to touch "NCIS" or "The Unit".

This time around, I'm rating this 5 stars.

Over on NetFlix, I had rated the DVD only 4 stars. I don't think it is because it is in HD, but just something about watching it again and how I seem to connect differently with it (perhaps something about my circumstances....) :lalala:

Verbatim DVD+R DL update

Good News. The Verbatim DVD+R DL's work great.

I have burned 3, one for each of the first 3 seasons of "Strange Days at Blake Holsey High". And, they are all playable. I didn't actually watch all the episodes...I only looked to see that I could load the menus and then play an episode near the beginning and near the end.

I just used a regular DVD-R for burning Conclusions

Verbatim DVD+R DL 10 pack

Well, while I was over a the mall picking up a prescription....I decided to check out what is out there in Verbatim DVD DL media.

My usual preference is DVD-R, though DVD+R seems more widely available. I wasn't sure if I was going to buy, it was more to see how much. Though I want to burn those images for "Strange Days at Blake Holsey High" that I've been working on. Namely because I've run out of space to have both images and the raw input data on my system....actually, I can't get to working on "Conclusions" until I address my space problem.

First I checked Walmart, because that's where my prescription refill was waiting at, they had the 3pk for $11.88.

I then walked over to Best Buy, and then decided to go past them and check out OfficeMax first.

In OfficeMax I spotted that they had the 10pk for $19.99 after instant rebate. Well, for that price, I couldn't pass on I snapped it up and that concluded my shopping trip.

Now to burn Season's 1, 2 and 3 to DVDs and try them out....wonder if there's a marathon in my future. Kind of bad, since I have purchased DVDs that need watching (namely the Firefly TV DVDs, and then the Serenity movie DVD....)

Upgraded to MPEG Video Wizard

Well, I decided to upgrade my MPEG-VCR license to MPEG Video Wizard. Even though MPEG-VCR would be sufficient for the processing needed to create DVDs of "Strange Days at Blake Holsey High", I had become spoiled by the interface and there are other files that I will want process later that MPEG-VCR won't handle directly (and a different [no longer supported] package that I own has ceased working on my system, and I don't feel like figuring out which Windows patch has killed it).

After getting my PSN, I upgraded to the latest version of MPEG Video Wizard and processed about half a dozen Strange Days at Blake Holsey High episodes (namely from the first part of the second season). Since I had previously only done the entire first season and "Inquiry"....and attempted to burn a DVD-R DL for the entire first season (so far this has been unsuccessful, and I don't know when I'll try again....though space is starting to become an issue on my computer :?)

I don't plan on adding any more disk storage to any of computers in the immediate future (and hopefully, I won't experience any situations that will require me to replace existing drives....again >:( )

Strange Days at Blake Holsey High - Conclusions

Well, I got to watch the "Conclusions" to Strange Days at Blake Holsey High.

Which I was worried that my job hunting and hopes to find a new job before the money runs out ;D Though it certain is a big improvement from the old days where there was a lot of month after the money.... :P

It was interesting to finally see how they resolved from the ending to Season 3, and the rest of the series, etc. Though I do find myself wanting more.

I recall reading somewhere about speculation on a 5th season...though I see no mention of that now, so I guess it really is over.... :`(

I wonder what is on tap for Emma Taylor-Isherwood. ;)

SCI FI To Air New Doctor Who

Good news...they are going to air the series in the US.

Maybe I don't need to add Canada as somewhere I'll consider moving find work. ;D

Unfortunately, SciFi is a standard cable channel it'll be hazzy analog 4:3. I was kind of hoping to get the DVDs (eventually) so I can enjoy new Doctor Who's that fill my entire screen.

Wonder if SciFi will run season two in sync with either the BBC or CBC?

Digital TV changeover suggested for 2009

They say they want us to hurry up and make the switch to digital. But, they still talking about off in 2009, there'll be the $50 converters available....

Well, obviously most people are going to wait until these $50 converters become available then.

What they need to do is make the $50 converters available now. Which is where the price should be now.....

Of course, they also need to stop fiddling around with how digital TV is going to be done. Treating the digital TV market the same way as computers isn't going to fly with consumers.

My old analog TV served me fine for 21 years, the only thing along the way was getting external tuners to keep up with the growing number of TV channels.

I got a digital ready TV/Monitor....just doesn't have a tuner....but one of these will come into existence when they come up with the standard.... Well, there's CableCard 1.0, and new TVs come with it built in now. But, where are the tuners for those of us that already got digital TVs without them? Of course, maybe they are waiting for CableCard 2.0 to come into existence, and how will they support the people that already have the older TVs?

Telling them that they should've waited until 2009 like the rest of the world?

Doctor Who Ring Tone on my BB7100t

I've been meaning to try getting a Doctor Who ring tone on my BB7100t, and while doing some disk cleanup I came across some related MIDI files.

Of the ones I found, this is the one that seems to work the best as a ring tone.

Now instead of subjecting some poor random forum to a long rambling thought, I will try to consolidate those things into this blog where they can be more easily ignored profess to be collected thoughts from my mind.
